Grendel P10, NO Magazine ?? .380acp
Ғылым және технология
Grendel P-10 .380 Semi-Auto Pistol can hold 10 rounds of .380 acp ammo (more than similar size .380 acp pistols) because it has no detachable box magazine. In stead it uses an internal box magazine that can be reloaded with M-16 / AR-15 'stripper clips' by using a loading / disassembly tool
The Grendel P-10 was designed by George Kellgren a Swedish Arms designer who also invented the Intratec Tec-9, TEC-22, and he is now the owner of Kel-Tec
The Grendel P-10:
Weighs - 15 oz (unloaded)
Length - 5.3 inches
Barrel Length - 3 inches
Sight Radius - 4.5 inches
Capacity = 11 rounds (.380 acp)
Operation - Blowback

For latecomers to this, here's a little insight to what Kelgren had in mind. At a time when the .38 snub revolver ruled the roost in off-duty cops' holsters, and when civilian carry was just coming into the light, he was seeking an option for those carriers who wanted more firepower in a package no bigger than the revolver. Many cops (including me) back then were wary of stowing an autoloader on their ankles due to concerns of safety levers or magazine releases being manipulated while riding in that position. Enter the Grendel P10. With its DAO trigger, it could be brought into play just like a revolver, and lacked any exterior controls that could be accidentally manipulated. Since rapid-reloading of a .38 snub BU/OD gun was rarely a concern (most didn't carry reloads for them), the idea that the P10 could also not be rapidly-reloaded was moot. So, here was an option that more-than-doubled the firepower of the J-frame and carried just as easily, if not more so. Grendel even marketed it to law enforcement agencies; response to such marketing with a department PO was how I and several other officers on my department got ours. It's just too bad they were not as reliable OOB as they could have been. I still have mine (1988 purchase) and all its accessories.

Savage Model 1907 did it better 75 years earlier.
Had one and was the BIGGEST pos I have ever owned. Took 5-10 trigger pulls just to fire a round. Wouldn't bet my life on one.
I have one of these with the speed loader, grip extender and the threaded speed-brake barrel. Absolutely love it. I was supposed to get a Phoenix HP22a but the unit that arrived had defects so I sent it back, and the curiously ugly shape of the P10 led me to inquire about it. I paid $100 for it and bought the various accessories later. Apparently mine had been owned by a gunsmith previously and hasn't had any failures (apparently the other unit he sold snapped in half), and I nearly got that one because it already had the speed-brake barrel but he wanted twice as much and it just didn't cycle smoothly. This one also had the improved extractor design (long, like the P12), while the other had the short original extractor like the one you used in the video. It works, it's simple and parts are cheap. When you get on that works, they're great and fun to use.
No hinged floor plate to unload?
What a neat piece of history.... makes me think there should be a C96 pistol rechambered for 380 that uses 5.56 strip clips. Much more common clips, much more common ammo.
Straight blowback?
Hold on stop shooting at me I gotta use this stripper clip RQ
Seem one these today was about to jump on it but passed for now might get it later only passed because as interested as it is I was still questioning no mag lol but I didn't know it took a stripper clip probably would be aggravating with out it

@@GunWebsites ahh that makes things harder lol, I thought about getting the grendel to just put it in my collection or range toy , maybe it's worth while for self defense as I held it I enjoyed but haven't took it to the range so not sure if I trust it to defend but will be better than not carrying right

@@GunWebsites thank you so much for replying, I'll heed your advice, but I agree with it being a weird gun lol maybe that's why I'll get it to have something to laugh with lol
One of the worst guns that I have ever owned. I bought one of these in 1991 used, without the loading tool , for $50. Trigger pull was about 20lbs, and took for ever to pull. Very inaccurate. I couldn't hit anything with it. Loading was tough without the tool so I did it manually. I hated it. As soon as I could, I traded it for a single shot H&R 12ga shotgun, and felt like I came out the winner.
I have one too, just as a hideout gun. I just load it one at a time like you do a magazine.

Any negative feed back from it? Like the slide pinching your skin or anything
Had mine for 20 years! Use it mostly for around the house if needed! Never have used a speed loader just pull back the slide and load the magazine from the top! Use the sheriff office range and love to see their faces when they look for the clip!
I love that question, "Say, what's that you've got there?" It's half the fun of going to the range, everybody getting a chance to shoot and learn about something different or historically significant.
Those guys were WAY ahead of their time in weapon design. Who would have EVER thought of building in a Box Opener on your handgun. Ingenious!
i love how you open your packages.
i was going to complain about the angle of the first person view when shooting and then i realised how difficult it would be doing it through a camera. DOH! great work guys.
He does it because he is dedicated to his viewers and his channel. He's trying to make his videos more interesting and desirable to watch. I personally like it.
I had one of those and carried it for a couple of years. Was a great, accurate and reliable pistol. I'd buy another today.
Nice collector piece. Good demo of the pros/cons, and why magazines are important. Thanks for the vid.
Just seeing you beat the box with the pistol made me laugh. Good job!
i remember the Grendels...haven't seen one in quite awhile...thanks for sharing
That is neat, never seen one before. Thanks for sharing.
Wow. My grandpa (RIP) used to have one of these. I immediately recognized it in this video. In mexico, he always had it with him in an ankle holster and we shot the heck out of it when i was like 13. I always thought it was funny with no mag. Its probably in mexico in my grandmas house somewhere. Had no idea they were kinda rare
Except for the trigger guard it looks like a P11. Looks archaic today, but this pistol was the first example of genius by George Kellgren back in the late 80s before he founded KelTec. His goal was a semi-auto to replace the DAO revolver which is all avg folks had for serious CC back then. One of the first (if not the first) polymer guns. With a revolver you only had 5 or 6 shots, so with 10 rounds the idea of backup magazines wasn't thought necessary. This already doubled the capacity.
FYI, to unload, hold in left hand, finger off trigger, and rotate 90o to your right, so the ejection port is facing the table. Rack slide with right hand, and each shell ejects out onto the table...

+Chip Mautz this isnt wrong, but keep in mind this is a blowback, not a recoil gun (like glock). the brass needs the propulsion from the gunpowder to send it backwards. Correct me if I am wrong.

+Tommy "Johny" Wiseau I'm talking about unloading, not firing. However, yes, it is a blowback design.
You are the master of opening boxes!
That is a very interesting pistol Gwebs, thanks for sharing it with us.
Do you happen to still have this pistol? I know someone looking for the loading tool. Since it is nearly impossible to find, I was wondering if I could get the dimensions to mill one from scratch.
Talk about Kellgren digging into the past on that design. I can imagine once some dirt gets down into the magazine it's a pain to clean out.
Great video. I just got my hands on a Grendel P12 380. Posted a video on it. The owner had some issues that he asked me to look at. After some research I got what he needed. They are both an interesting platform for sure.
nice POV shots gwebs!
What a nice box opener
Is it possible to load one round at a time into the internal magazine or is a stripper clip a must? I presume it's possible but I do not have one to test nor does this question appear to be asked anywhere else on the various gun forums especially for a one of gun model liek this one.

Jay Choi yeah you can load it one at a time after 7rd it get hard to cram them
thats awesome man i love those triangle type sights too reminds me of the degrees.
like going back in time 100+ years to the Broom-handle Mauser.
Interesting gun , Thank you for sharing
I had the magazine version of the Grendel p12 380 back in the 90's, wow what a great gun for the money! Never had and ftf or fte. I miss it alot.... :)
Damn it G, I have the same ringer for texts on my phone and when yours went off it made me check mine lol
That's the crunchiest trigger I ever heard
very interesting little pistol
Bad ass box opener
I see where the Kel-Tec barrel gets its profile from. Even the slide looks a lot alike between both guns.
8:30 This is why detachable magazines for firearms are safer, and can save your life.
the top of the slide and the sights look a lot like my first gen KelTec p32. Cool vid.
I agree and great observation. That and getting a muzzle loader!
One of the few handguns you can say "load a clip into your pistol" and not feel dirty...
Thats actually a working range for a pocket pistol, the narrators accuracy was pretty solid for this type of gun.
it's always good to see that world famous kel-tec "quality"
Loads like a modern day Broomhandle Mauser
The Mauser C96 is fed from stripper clips too. Most models have a fixed magazine, just like the contemporary rifles used to.
awesome, I was hoping you'd have a video on it after teasing us in the gun chat ;)
Best box opening EVER!
That's nifty. Never knew they made any like that. You have some of the coolest shit Gwebs.
glad i found this. theres one of these at an auction wed. was thinking of going for it. now i know its a kel tec sort of i dont want it. ill stick with getting a lcp at the gun show in 2 weeks.
very cool to see
Very interesting pistol, I like guns that are kind of different. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting gun.
cool pistol
I've seen one of these many years ago, but it had a Magazine with the Glock logo on it. I always wondered was that thing a 380 prototype that Glock made.
you know it.. kinda handy there
congratulations, what a good shot you are with such a short barrel. how far was that target?
Yeah, next thing you know somebody will cut down a Christmas tree with one.
i used to own one of those back in the early 90s
Happiness is a new G-Webs range video....
This is very interesting, I had the chance to get a P30 but I passed when I found out how hard it was to find parts and extra mag's for it. This might be a silly question but since the .380ACP fits on AR stripper clips will 9mm, 38Spl and 357Mag fit on there as well? What other kind of ammo will work with those clips too?
Wow, thats very interesting. Did you just get it? I never knew 380 would fit on a standard stripper clip, so 9mm fits too then. Neat way to keep spare rounds in places.
Cool gun. I used to have the (magazine fed) Grendel P-12 ... sorry I don't have it anymore! :-(
Question, why is the gun tilted toward the left when you are shooting, did he also design the Sccy pistol
Can't seem to take out the pin like u did not sure why what can I do
@XxNewmilleniumxX

Bang it out with a hammer and screwdriver, soak it with soap specifically dishwashing soap like dawn for 10 minutes then scrub with metal brush and dry all of the parts including the frame then let it sit for 10 mins also shake out the left over water from the frame, never let it dry more than a day because it will rust really really fast. Then do the process once more as above. Lube the gun in full make sure to lube down inside of the clip area. To do so grab a tooth brush with soft bristle and lube the brush first and push down Into the clip with it and brush the lube around the clip area. Lube the take down pin and Lube inside of the barrel that the take down pin goes into. And reassemble the gun, make sure to put a nice polish on the gun so the metal does not rust, either lube it or use a polisher for the slide. About a month later do it again but the pin should easily come out when pushing it with a screwdriver instead of punching it out with a hammer. Then it should be clean and clear and you don’t have to clean it no more unless you take it to the range a lot. Imo this is not a range gun it’s a ccw and is meant for 8 feet distance or shorter and the parts are hard to find so I would suggest not stressing it out at a gun range and just use it for cc or to show off as a antique gun. But this is my own 2 cents and you can take the advice or not.

These guns when acquired are usually in bad shape due to how undervalued they are by today’s standard, so you have people who experiment with this gun to straight up neglecting them. My friend gave me his, all of the parts are functional but when I received it the whole gun was rusted it even had rusted gunk balls inside of it, completely disgusting and he could of sworn I couldn’t fix it because it would even cock back. Did the method above for 2 days straight and had my smith clean up the rust for 30 bucks then lubed it and it looks brand new again there’s no scratches on it or nothing. Shoots almost flawlessly with hornady self defense red tip rounds with some minor hiccups. I carry this with my khar p380 as my ccw’s which is just as small as this. This has a slimmer profile and it just feels cool in the hand. Tested over 200 rounds only got one misfeed/failure to load and 2 double feeds. Good results for a 150 dollar gun that is free now lol. I would carry this gun and trust it with my life with the results I received. Most of the times it went boom at the range so it’s not flunkie at all but only thing I’m scared of is if my target was aiming over 30 feet away, because the accuracy of this gun is like trying to hit a fly on a train going 140mph. Can’t miss if your assailant is less than 8-10 feet away or close but if they are far it’s going to be a problem. Great gun and now it’s making me want to view the p3at since that is this gun successor.
this gun proves theres always more then one way to skin a cat
Follow up - I keep a loaded LCP in one of my cars, and just loaded up 10 rnds into my P10 and keep that one in the other car. Nice little CCW pistol!
Had a chance to buy one once at a pawn shop for 100 bucks. Only reason I didn't was because it didn't have any stripper clips with it!
You need to get the Grendel AR
Can you load the gun one shot at a time just with your hands? Or do you have to do it with a stripper clip?
Just bought me a P12 for $75. Cool little guns.
@GunWebsites How do i pm you with the new youtube? i got something to ask you,
what kind of bag is that??
Cool gun for 1897!
Would this be cali legal if it had a similar magazine design with more than 10 shots?
will it load one shot at a time?
Nice shooting. If Grendel's trigger is anything like my P-32, it not easy to shoot. That other dude was really struggling. I would hate to have to reload this thing in a hurry!
Hey! How did you get Dianne Feinstein's personal concealed carry?
unique.
If that pistol had feed lips build into the slide, and some kind of (No doubt extremily stiff) lever that would depress the rounds in the mag in order to more easily fix cases of FTE (Failure to Eject), it'd be perfect. I LOVE the nostalgiac factor of having a clip-fed pistol that sort of harkens back to the days of the C96 and Steyr 1912. I'd absolutely buy this if it was cheap and available in Canada. Needing the extra attachment and FTEs being tougher to fix is a bit of a turn-off, however.
Seems like this gun could have a specail purpose never the less very cool
Is that a BFG Ten Speed M4 pouch on the front of your bag, G-Webs?
Just a little tip for next time you're loading ammo from the box onto the stripper clip: You can just drag the clip across a row of the bullets while still in the plastic ammo box, then push them closer together. This way you don't have to take them out then realign them on to the clip; they're mostly aligned in the ammo box. Have fun shooting!
so is it impossible to load without that tool or just more cumbersome? because that tool seems to take away most of the practicality of the stripper system.
more like "hold on lemme empty my gun bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang
yea, you can load it manually with as many as you want too
laughing at how you opened the box
I hope you don't plan on using that in a real world app.LOL
Kinda like what they are doing in Kalifornia with the "bullet button".
What a cool little piece of firearms history! Those sights suck but really cool gun!
that is how we roll
intresting, but the need for a special adapter to load it from the clip makes it way too long to reload even compered to a revolver + speed loader does it make the gun atleast lighter then other sub-sub-compacts
I don't know if I'd want to carry one, reload seems a little slow -- but that is REALLY COOL. Very old school. Are there any other NEW magazine-less, stripper clip pistols on the market, besides this one? When was the last one made? I might need to get one of these, just for the cool factor. (cool to us gun history nerds).
how fun it is to use a clip instead of magazine
Was this some sort of compliance design? Or just a bad idea?
Neat!
I wander it didn't make load without that adapter.
