but real 40mm grenades use other powder for propelling and they are more barrel-fitting XD so maybe thats what makes the different. I would like to see him build one of these Grenades but with nitrocellulose or smokeless gunpowder(shuld be pretty much the same)

That's a good point. If you made a viable hunting round for it could you get it registered for hunting purposes? Nearly impossible to make it humane UNLESS you say the design is suppose to work at 50ft and use a shotgun as the basis , and have it for birds/rabbits which die nearly instantly from just about anything.

12" launchers will give you a "bloop" in 37 or 40mm. I usually run the 9", and I don't get the bloop too often. Great video!

Not sure about others, but the M32 most definitely does make that sound in real life.

That is probably what real grenade launchers sound like. They use a high-to-low pressure system, while this seems to be just using a charge of black powder in the shell. I'm not sure about that, but I'm assuming that's why it doesn't sound like a real grenade launcher.

I think the reason they make a "phump" sound i because there is a seal between round and the barrel, so as the round travels down the barrel it creates a vacuum within it, making it so that when it finally has left the barrel, air will fill the vacuum making a sound. Sort of the same way you blow on the lip of a bottle to make a sound.

I think it's still listed as a 40mm, either way that still uses a high/low pressure system. the gp25 is quite different from the NATO 40x43. there is a later system, that fires thermobaric grenades from a pump action system. in all cases the fuse requires rotation to arm.

+Dave Smith it's more difficult than first glance, even point detonation fuses won't work as the shells tumble in flight. technically anything is possible but some things are more difficult than they seem. Most shells for 37mm are pyrotechnic timed, just like firework shells. kinda hard to compare that to a real grenade launcher.

Well, the thing is, it looks like a grenade launcher, but it is technically a flare gun. Yes, it is a flare projector, not a grenade launcher. 37mm flare projectors and most flare projectors in general are exempted from the NFA. Now, if it has a propellant charge of more than 4 ounces? NFA restricted destructive device. If the device you project has an explosive charge of more than 1/4 ounces? NFA restricted destructive device. Legal loadings are noise effect (grenades), gas, and flares. Non-legal loadings are anti-personnel (rocks count as buckshot, knives and nails count as flechettes) loadings and other such NFA restricted destructive devices (without a tax stamp). You can of course just register and pay a tax stamp. Also, the can cannon counts as 5.56/.223 so that's legal.

at 0:10, Oh yes they do! that "Poonk" sound you are referring to is what a military grade grande launcher sounds like, at least mine did, it was an M-4 mounted 40mm M-203 and I got to shoot plenty of rounds, anything from frag round, flare round, tear gas round (CS), smoke round and that orange powdered training round.

Technically, anyone 21 or older and not in a shitty liberal state can register a DD. It just takes a $200 tax stamp and many months of waiting. I agree, he should do it. Individual grenades are DDs of their own and require magazine storage, but registering the launcher as a DD would allow launching all kinds of stuff from it. Nails, buckshot, rocks, you name it.

I fired an M203 in the Army in the 80s many times, and they definitely go, "THOOOMP" as I watched the round go downrange. But I admit that was a long time ago, and I don't know what noise they make these days.

So as I understand the noise thing, “real” 40mm rounds use a hi/lo pressure chamber. A small amount of a high explosive detonates in a small chamber rupturing ports into a larger area lowering the pressure. This is what pushes the round out of the barrel. Making the characteristic noise. Noise makers use powder operating at lower pressures than the initial explosives in 40mm rounds.

I can't even own a potato gun where I live.

I know the M-79 I used in Scotland only went 'plunk' and nowhere near the smoke that Matt produced. Had the recoil of a .22lr too.

if u wanna have lethal stuff go and build a Coil-Gun (gauss-Rifle, Railgun same Principe). They are maby not illigal in ger (build one and i ez through a 20mm wooden pressboard). greetings from ger xD (cost start around 50€ up to 500€)

The specific gl in the clip does make that choonk sound because it has a low pressure chamber since yours is just a normal barrel it sound different

Question: What sets this apart from a shotgun? I've watcher other (American) videos of people putting rocks and nails and overcharging shotgun shells and no legalities were ever called into question. Is it simply the manufacturer's designation of it being a "Grenade Launcher?"

If you were wondering how a real grenade launcher she'll works,as the grenade is shore, it spins thru the air, and un twists a cover over the detonator, and when the grenade makes contact, it pushes the detonator in, which in turn detonates the grenade

I dont know if you can do this but here is a challenge : take your 50 cal. and an bowling ball. get a nice straight area where anyone could roll the ball powerful ! you laying down on your truck and shoot the bowling ball. Maybe the guy who throws the ball needs to knock off some pins and you have to stop the bowling ball (i think you may need some more bowling balls :D ) if the awesome community likes this challenge, just vote i think its awesome !!! keep the videos up they are insane and you are a real great shooter greetings from germany !

I think if you put a shotgun round into that pop round, the primer being the first contact.(primer-bb-phillips screw) held by clay or tape, you can have a more reliable popper. Take the shot out of the shot gun shell. Leave enough powder for popping, but put flour back in and put it back together. Saw some people did this with potato cannons in the old days. I think it needs better flare rounds, and more variety.

Hey matt the m203 does make a punk sound when it fires grenades. I think yours is just malfunctioned
