With Special Guest - HEWAN CLARKE
A special book talk followed by a club night at Todmorden’s The Golden Lion, with DJ sets from Greg Wilson and Hewan Clarke, plus interviews with host Ben Davis
Following on from events in London, Liverpool and Sheffield, this is the fourth in a series of events, up and down the country, supporting the new extended hardback of Greg’s Discotheque Archives book: superweirdsubstance.com/produ...
The book explores the pre-rave era of dance music, spanning the ‘60s through until the mid-80s via its four main sections - Classic DJs, Classic Labels, Classic Venues and Classic Records. With props from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Luke Una, Irvine Welsh and John Higgs.
Greg’s guest on the night is the original Haçienda resident, Hewan Clarke, who he first met in the early ‘80s when they both appeared on the jazz-funk all-dayer circuit. Hewan. One of the quintessential Manchester DJs, was also known for his nights at The Reno in Moss Side, one of the Classic Venues in the book.
Hewan will be playing tracks from the early-mid ‘80s, whilst Greg will be selecting from the vast array of records listed in the book.
Copies of the book will be available to buy on the night, and Greg is more than happy to sign if requested (same goes for anyone who’s already bought and wants to bring along their own copy).
