Greg Judy explaining their sheep proof guardian dog feeder

Don't let your dogs go hungry. Make sure you have a dog feeder that your sheep can not get into. Sheep will eat dog feed and then your dog goes hungry. Go to greenpasturesfarm.net and read more on our sheep and guardian dog management.

Great video Greg. Question, For the Dog Feeder, you said you don't water the sheep, how do you water the dogs?

My grade Suffolks were diving under the bottom strand of the fence, anywhere they could get their nose started. I saw by the wool on the wire where. Back when I was a really uninformed grazier and I had em too hungry

Greg on your last video about the dogs it looked like you had 8 to 10 dogs. So how many feeders do you have? I ask you about building topsoil and you told me to get the book “Dirt to Soil” by Gabe Brown. I got it on kindle and listened to the whole thing. Gabe Brown is as passionate as you are about farming thanks for the tip.

Gabe is a pretty amazing guy. I visited his ranch in August 2016 and spent the day with him touring the property and operation. Gabe doesn't really farm much at this point, he moved most all of his crop acres to annual forages and cattle. Kinda sorta the same thing I guess but farming to me means more like cash crop farming and grain production. I'm doing rotational crops and grazable cover crops in my operation here in MO/KS, still working out the kinks and details, it's a learning process but Gabe can still teach you the basics and beyond.

@@downbntout I don't know, I've not talked with him in a long while, if you're talking about Gabe Brown. I'd be surprised if it affected their ranch much though where they are at.

Do you give them meat scrapes while they are in with the flock or feed them away from the flock? I have mentioned feeding this way and people have asked me if I am feeding raw meat scraps how do you keep the dogs from eating the sheep? So, I wanted your advise as well, thank you

A year late, but good LGDs will never eat living sheep unless they're starving. They would get pretty underfed before reaching that point. They're bred to treat the flock as their family, their pack. That doesn't change if they eat meat and bones. Matter of fact, your LGDs will go out of their way to eat naturally perished sheep to clean up the material and prevent it from attracting predators.

Pretty sure he runs them all together. He may not run all his bulls in with the cows all the time, I'm not sure but I recall him saying that years ago Ian kind of rode his case about running split herds and cutting the "horsepower" of his grass machine or something along those lines.

He runs them all together. He prevents young heifers from getting bred by not force weaning. This keeps them a little immature by nature, and less likely to get bred.
