Greg Gagne - Why Eric Bischoff Fired Me from WCW

Ойын-сауық

Greg Gagne reveals why Eric Bischoff fired him in WCW after the Hulk Hogan deal. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwork.com
Former AWA star/promoter and WCW agent Greg Gagne discusses his time at Ted Turner's WCW (World Championship Wrestling).
Future WCW boss Eric Bischoff got his start for Verne Gagne's AWA years prior as a broadcaster. Greg says he was the one who recommended Eric for a job in WCW.
Gagne also reveals that he was the one who told Eric Bischoff to get Hulk Hogan and actually helped set the original deal up, not Ric Flair. Greg says that recommended that Bischoff buy the AWA so it could go head to head with WCW.
We'll hear why Greg suggests that Eric stole his invasion angle and used it to create the NWO vs WCW. This is a very interesting perspective - Gagne tells it all up to the date that Bischoff fired him.

"I knew it was over the moment I saw Bischoff trying to be talent sitting on a motorcycle doing a 20 minute promo." -King Kong Bundy. The one great thing about Bischoff, is he can teach you how to overheat a territory, then collapse it and drive everyone out of business. Same with Vinny Mac, Russo and Cornette. Now you know why nobody legit wants anything to do with these people. They are bad bets. Always. Though that may be turning the corner soon enough.

I hope Greg Gagne reads these comments. I grew up in Minnesota and there was nothing, absolutely nothing better than the AWA and All-Star Wrestling. It meant so much to everyone, my dad, my uncles, all my family we would never miss it. We saw matches in Long Prairie, Alexandria, and St. Cloud. The Crusher was amazing. Mad Dog Vuchon. We loved Nick Bockwinkle, Super Destroyer, Baron Von Rascke, and the women enjoyed Renee Goulet. Pro-Wrestling was more popular than the Twins or the Vikings all because of Verne Gagne and of course Greg. Your product was far superior to anything coming out of any other city. The WWF, WEF or whatever...They were all the minor leagues. AWA was absolutely the best, and provided wonderful memories for an entire generation. The AWA was a national treasure.

People have reputations for reasons, I have NO love for Bischoff, but stories of Gagne’s arrogance and self involvement abound throughout the industry. It’s like when Dusty Rhodes was managing; he’s such a beloved figure in wrestling that no one likes to talk about how he was a booker who routinely screwed wrestlers out of pay. Elevating our heroes to a place where they are infallible and beyond reproach is a mistake, and one I won’t be making. Greg had a great career and seems to be a decent person. He can be all of those things and still make a few mistakes along the way. It’s called “being human”.

In all fairness, the AWA was very entertaining. Vince, however, could outspend them. That's how he took Hogan, Bobby Heenan etc away from the AWA....Bischoff didn't know how to do multiple angles simultaneously. He did come up with the nWo, but ultimately screwed that up too.

What I wanna know is where was Greg Gagne working at to say I can’t come there for that, I’m making more than that. Where did Greg work at after his dad’s company went belly up ? You know what the difference between Hulk Hogan’s tall tales and Greg Gagne’s tall tales are ? Nothing ! They’re both the same height. This guy is nothing but a nicer version of Bret Hart. He’s bitter and everything bad happened to him and his dad and they all got screwed every time.

Little known fact, Greg convinced the Minnesota timberwolves to draft point guard Johnny Flynn with the 7th pick in the 2009 nba draft just so the golden state warriors could draft a nobody and complete bum from a small school named Stephen curry next. True story. The Minnesota timberwolves screwed hometown awa out of money in 1989 so Greg knew by telling Minnesota management to take Flynn over curry, he would now finally get the ultimate revenge. Greg as usual wins in the end.
