What is Greenhouse?
The greenhouse is a structure or building, made of with glass walls and glass roof in which the plants that need protection, from cold weather are grown. The glass walls, and glass roof, allowing sunlight to penetrate in freely and warm the air and plants inside.
Greenhouse Effect:
Solar energy enters our atmosphere, as shortwave radiation in the form of ultraviolet rays and visible light. When the radiation enters the greenhouse, the radiation absorbed by the inside objects of the greenhouse. These objects, re-emitted the Infrared radiations, as a longer wavelength, which cannot pass easily through the glass. Because, shortwave radiation, can easily pass through the glass wall of a greenhouse, and go inside it. But, the longer wavelength radiation, does not allow to escape through the glass. So, it again reflected inside the greenhouse. Thereby, this re-emitted longwave radiation, warms the soil, plants and so on inside a greenhouse. Even, without an internal supply of heat, the temperature inside a greenhouse, becomes higher than that outside. Thus, the glass acts as a heat trap. This is called greenhouse effect.

    The underlying heat-adjustment effect works like this: --------- "GREENHOUSE EFFECT", TRYING TO WARM IF THE QUANTITY INCREASES - The "greenhouse effect" in Earth's troposphere operates like this: Some of the "LWR" aka "infrared" radiation heading up gets absorbed into cloud above instead of going to space so that's the "heat trapping" effect of a cloud. The top portion of the cloud radiates up some of the LWR radiation that's manufactured inside the cloud but it's less amount than the LWR that was absorbed into the bottom of the cloud because the cloud top is colder than below the cloud and colder things radiate less than warmer things. That is PRECISELY the "greenhouse effect" in Earth's troposphere. It's the "greenhouse effect" of liquid "water" and solid "ice" in that example. You can see that "greenhouse effect" of liquid "water" and solid "ice" for all the various places on Earth from CERES satellite instrument at kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXlluKR8pJutfMY.html at 7:50. It's the pink one labelled "Longwave....26.2 w / m**2" so cloud globally has a "greenhouse effect" of 26.2 w / m**2. - Solids in the troposphere have the exact same effect as the "cloud greenhouse effect" above for the exact same reason. - Infrared-active gases in the troposphere (H2O gas, CO2, CH4, N2O, O3, CFCs) have the exact same effect as the "cloud greenhouse effect" above for the exact same reason. Non infrared-active gases in the troposphere (N2, O2, Ar) have no "greenhouse effect". The "greenhouse effect" really is that simple, and it's utterly 100% certain. --------- SUNSHINE REFLECTION EFFECT, TRYING TO COOL IF THE QUANTITY INCREASES - Clouds (liquid "water" and solid "ice") also absorb & reflect some sunlight and the "reflect" part has an attempt-to-cool effect, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the "greenhouse effect". You can see that "sunlight reflection attempt-to-cool effect" of liquid "water" and solid "ice" for all the various places on Earth from CERES satellite instrument at kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXlluKR8pJutfMY.html at 7:50. It's the blue one labelled "Shortwave....-47.3 w / m**2" so cloud globally has a sunshine reflection effect of 47.3 w / m**2. - Solids in the troposphere also absorb & reflect some sunlight and the "reflect" part has an attempt-to-cool effect, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the "greenhouse effect". - Infrared-active gases in the troposphere (H2O gas, CO2, CH4, N2O, O3, CFCs) do not absorb or reflect any sunlight (minor note: except a tiny portion in the high-frequency ultraviolet where O2 & O3 has absorbed most of it already in the stratosphere above the troposphere). --------- NET EFFECT OF THE 2 ENTIRELY-DIFFERENT EFFECTS DESCRIBED ABOVE - The net result of the 2 entirely-different "cloud" effects is that clouds have a net cooling effect of 21.1 w / m**2 as seen in the blue-hues pictorial at left on screen at either of my 2 GooglesTubes links above. - The net result for solids in the troposphere is a net cooling effect because the change in this effect by humans is the "global dimming" atmospheric aerosols air pollution effect and that's a cooling effect (separate from its cloud change effect). - The net result for infrared-active gases in the troposphere (H2O gas, CO2, CH4, N2O, O3, CFCs) is a warming effect because their 2nd effect above is negligible, essentially zero.

    Good, but failes to explain that UV/Light convert into IRs, when bounced off light surfaces, or are absorbed by dark ones, unless they are Photosynthesising surfaces (like leaves) or Solar Photovoltaics. This is an important explanation to include

    The explanation at 8:20 to 8:45 is essentially incorrect. When the vibrating molecule hits another molecule it kicks the molecules faster (heats them) and the vibration is gone so no photon is emitted to surface or anywhere. However, those molecules are hitting other molecules 1,700,000,000 times / second and that impact sometimes vibrates it and it sometimes emits a photon then and sometimes downwards, so that sends energy to surface sometimes. Obviously, the faster the air molecules go (i.e. the warmer) the more collisions so the more photons are made by GHGs. So really it's the full energy from surface of radiation (80%), evaporation latent heat (17%) & warm air parcels rising (3.4%) that warms the atmosphere (plus Sun absorbed in air-clouds-dust adds ~16% to that 103%) and then the atmosphere radiates back to surface depending on the temperature all that energy got it to. Increase a "greenhouse gas (GHG)" and the immediate result is that a little bit more gets radiated back to surface and a little bit less gets radiated to space (so overall the same amount is being radiated out until its temperature rises).

    If quartz glass is used which lets longwave radiation pass through, instead of ordinary glass experiments show the temperature of the greenhouse is the same. Your video contradicts this experimental outcome. Please explain.

    Exactly. This explaination is wrong. Just like the simplified "how does airplanes fly" using Brnoullis equation and distance of travel. This bugs me because it messes up the way this is comunicated. Greenhouses overwhelmingly work by limiting convection.😄

    Thanks for trying to explain the greenhouse effect but some of your information is incorrect and much of it is incomplete to the point where you have really not explained the mechanism of the greenhouse effect. In particular your 1:1 correspondence of how a greenhouse works and how the greenhouse effect works is entirely wrong. The analogy is a stretch, the earth does not warm the way a greenhouse does. There are some superficial similarities, that is all. It ain't hard, you ought to do some reading before making a video like this.

    You have raised a good point. The Earth’s atmosphere is not a greenhouse whichever way you look at it. The best that popular literature can do is to use the words greenhouse “effect” so that it appears that the so-called greenhouse gases making up about 1% of air are to blame for anything to do with global warming and climate change. Those much maligned gases are purely acting as a thermostat allowing life to exist as we know it.

    Joel Weiner Yep, there's actually 1 heat-related aspect of a greenhouse that's EXACTLY the same as the "Greenhouse Effect" for Earth and 2 heat-related aspects of a greenhouse that have no similarity at all to the "Greenhouse Effect" for Earth (gravity causes them). A greenhouse's enclosure (glass & structure) at a cold time is colder on its outer surface than its inner surface so the outer surface is radiating less away than the inner surface is radiating back inside and that's the same as Earth's troposphere which gets cooler with altitude just like the glass pane gets cooler moving through it from inside to outside. That's what causes Earth's "Greenhouse Effect". A greenhouse enclosure also stops its air mixing with outside and limits the conduction. For Earth the mixing with outside is stopped by gravity and conduction is stopped by there's practically no matter in space to conduct it to (plus gravity is preventing Earth's air from spreading through the solar system and conducting heat).

    ​ @Joel Weiner Colder parcels of matter radiate less power than warmer ones and Earth's troposphere gets Colder with altitude so the higher up it is raised the average quasi-surface of molecules that radiate from Earth to space the less gets radiated to space, because it's radiating to space from a colder parcel. The mechanism (I correctly described it) is shit simple and obvious but working out HOW MUCH CHANGE is made by HOW MANY MORE OR FEWER MOLECULES oh boy that's an entirely different story and that's why the U.S. Air Force Kirtland Base engaged a team of physicists from Spectral Services Inc. in 1987 and didn't engage me to produce their MODTRAN, LOTRAN, HITRAN algorithm & code and code that the U.S. Air Force has patented and made available under license for a fee.
