Matt, well done for getting on the tour of the Command Centre. There are similar decontamination, and accommodation facilities at the Quick Reaction Alert Shelter, which is part of the GAMA setup onsite. These buildings were way after JFK, though at the time of JFK shooting there were USAF on site at Greenham, but the command Centre and GAMA were a lot later. I lived about 2 miles from here for many years, and there are lots of stories about tunnels and nuclear accidents, none of which stand up to rigorous investigation. Greenham common has its own "strategic reserve" mythology style rumourmill.

My uncle worked here back in the day, many times attacked by the woman outside of the compound when in his bus going to work in the morning. Shame he has Alzheimer's as he would have stories to tell no doubt.

My brother and I visited greenham common IAT in 1983 what a show, seeing the SR71 flying was a such a privilege.There were hundreds of CND women outside at the time.Its great to see there’s a small part of this once massive strategic base left for everyone to enjoy.👏👏👏

Reminds me of former US air force base in Suffolk RAF Bentwaters with above ground bunker command buildings which also has the big doors with airlock . Now a museum . Obviously another former US airforce Cold War base with same set up.

@@TheSecretVault yep indeed it does, just a shame they like to draw it out as long as they can and nit pick anything they find. Instead of going after criminals that are causing harm, they have to make decent folks lives as hard as possible.
