After Effects Tutorial for Professionals and Beginners
Green Screen Car Driving within Adobe Creative Cloud
In this tutorial by flomotion, you will learn how to film a shot in front of a green screen and make it look realistic and convincing.
Therefore I am going to at first show you some impressions from some of my professional green screen work on some big feature films. You will see some before and afters as well as behind the scenes shots from the movie "taxi" featuring Peter Dinklage and Rosalie Thomass, where I have been the VFX Supervisor on set as well as post production.
I will show you techniques we used on set and how to transfer them to a low budget easy after effects setup that you can do on your own.
I am explaining especially car shots and will also show and discuss some of my professional work with you to give you professional tips during the whole lesson.
I am also showing you some behind the scenes from the green screen set of "Umbre" which is a show form HBO where we did a green screen car crash scene.
1. Create a foreground
2. Create a background
3. Create and add reflections
4. Add and create a dirt texture from scratch
5. and finally add details with some camera movement, a handy wiggle expression and a glow effect.
For the wiggle expression I am going to automate a micro wiggle that only goes up and down, meaning only the y axis. Therefore I will show you how to separate the x and y dimensions from each other within the curve / graph editor.
Car driving scenes are something very special these days, as they involve a lot of planing, skills and experience. As it is forbidden in most countries to shoot while the actor is doing his or her job, the shoots are often done while the car is pulled by a trailer or in a green screen sound stage.
That offers the possibilities of shooting various locations on just one shooting day, as well as you are weather independent and also daytime independent.
You will see how i set up my green screen and why I do it in that way. learn how to shoot and capture the footage as well as the background plates to make it even more realistic.
You will learn how to set up a green chroma key within after effects with the use of keylight. In there I will show you some handy tips and tricks; you will learn which settings to use and why.
Spill correction will also be a topic and I am showing you my method of doing it.
As an extra compositing tip I will show you how to find out the perfect / correct horizon line to perfectly match back and foreground
I am also going to show you techniques on how to match the background to the foreground.
you will learn how to set up textures as well as reflections and how to get rid of mistakes during the shooting.
You will see some behind the scenes from my shooting as well as some shows where I was the VFX Supervisor on set as well as for previs and post-produktion.
The tutorial will have a typical flomotion style to it, which means you will learn something if you are a total beginner as well if you do this on a professional level.

This is yet another highly-enjoyable tutorial. I have seen other car/greenscreen lessons that were fun for basic shots, but this one added the nuances that separate hobby from pro. One of the new things that I enjoyed learning (that can be used for ANY greenscreen) is your keylight method. I also appreciate seeing "extract" being used.
