Man. This just brings back so many memories. I remember watching this live, I was 12. Kurt Cobain had died only months before and Green Day had just come out that summer, it was like an instant pick-me-up from how bummed everybody felt over that. They used to be such a great band. Just entered middle school at that point. Oh, the memories lol. This is definitely the kind of footage you never think you're going to see ever again, and once you do it's just so crazy.

Early Green Day was the shit. There are a lot of great punk and hardcore bands who play minute long machine gun fire, but there is something to be said for bands who write nice songs. Green Day were always next level songwriters. They lose me around the American Idiot era, but I've got a lot of respect for them for staying true to themselves and not ever really giving a fuck about what people think they should or shouldn't do. And how can you not love this song...??

I think if anything they were thriving off of that environment. Their music has an edge of insanity and immaturity to it to begin with. Yeah their set does pretty much fall apart at the end so they basically have to choice but to stop playing... but I dont think they were actually upset by the overall mud-fest and people rushing the stage. Historically when a Woodstock crowd really enjoys a band they start to go crazy and fuck shit up... thats just how it goes. Doesnt mean the crowd didnt love the band. If you watch the whole concert at the end Mike Dirnt even runs around with the fans on stage and ends up getting tackled by their own security by accident... and the crowd goes on to continue chanting GREEN DAY.

I saw them at Lollapalooza the same year. They told everyone to rush the stage. It caused a big snafu with festival security, who were trying to keep people out of the seated section up front. I stayed in the field like a good little boy. It was an awesome show though. I was not quite 14 years old. Perfect time to hear them perform songs from this album.
