Green Day - The American Dream Is Killing Me (Official Music Video)

Музыка

Saviors is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years.
It's raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record.
Honesty and vulnerability.
What is Saviors about, you ask?
Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility,,..
What would Andy Warhol do?
What would John Waters do?
What would Quentin Tarantino do?
What would GREEN DAY do?
Saviors, out now!! GreenDay.lnk.to/saviors
The Saviors Tour coming to North American and EU/UK this summer!! We’re playing both Dookie AND American Idiot in full AND a bunch of your other favorites new and old 🤯 Tickets on sale now greenday.com/tour

LYRICS
The American dream is killing me
The American dream is killing me
When it’s all double talk of conspiracy
The American dream is killing me
Send out an SOS
It’s getting serious
Bulldoze your family home
Now it’s a condo
We are not home
Are we not home
God damn I am so grateful
Forever faithful to
The American dream is killing me
The American dream is killing me
People on the street
Unemployed and obsolete
Did you ever learn to read the ransom note
Don’t want no huddled masses
TikTok and taxes
Under the overpass
Sleeping in broken glass
We are not well
Are we not well
Cracked up into the wild
We’re pedophiles for
The American dream is killing me
The American dream is killing me
When it’s all double talk of insanity
The American dream is killing me
From sea to shining sea
Whitewashed upon the beach
My country under siege
On private property
We are not home
Are we not home
Kiss me I’m dead inside
Who needs suicide
When the American dream is killing me
The American dream is killing me
When it’s all double talk of insanity
The American dream is killing me

You people with the negative comments don't understand this band at all. There is an interview that they did recently, where they explain the meaning of this song. They talk about how THEY absolutely were able to achieve the ultimate American dream, 30 years ago! But now the American dream is unattainable to the average person. They see the struggles that people are going through, and how much harder it is just to survive. They weren't born millionaires. They got where they are with talent and luck. And they don't take their success for granted. They are involved with more charities than I can count. Musicians and songwriters sing about things that they are passionate about. When they see injustice happening, they are going to speak out about it.

+. 100% agree. (The band is writing about injustices they are witnessing....it would be bad if they stopped writing about these things because it no longer "personally" affects them... You haven't seen them?!?! 😮 I got to see them twice on the American Idiot tour. I got my dad to take me to one in Toronto in November 2004. I forgot my CD in his car. He prompted my brother to go buy me a new one, as mine was commendered. August 2005 they actually came to my crappy city (Barrie). I didn't have a -choice- about attending one. (These are both in Ontario, Canada. ) My dad died two years ago due to alcoholism. I had to leave his side to attend rehab. Holiday is the song I listened to before his funeral. Literally before I could have the strength to walk through the doors. It was his favourite. I shared my love of Green Day with my daddy, & it only made our love stronger. ❤ Green Day os the gift that just keeps on giving.

This 65 year old fellow fan would like to mosh out, too, but I'm a bit too creaky. I suppose I 'll have to settle for the mosh pit of the mind. I'd really love to get to a concert, though. The band still still sounds great, and this song rocks with in-your-face energy and witty lyrics, as I've come to expect from them!

My first album was warning when I was 11..that sent me down the rabbit hole of the Green Days discography. Been on of my favorite bands since then. I’m 30 and I still blast Green Day with pride. Such nostalgic tunes for me. The only album I didn’t like was “father of all mother f***ers” This album brought me back to warning and nimrod.. so good!! Also I notice a lot of 30 year olds in the comments. We were born between the era of kerplunk and dookie, by the time we bought our first album we had a plethora of Green Day songs to delve into. Yea we were a bit late to enjoy them live in the 90s but this band is still nostalgic to us. I felt like I’ve known this band since I was born. I’m sure y’all know what I mean. They will forever be my top band that I hold dear and near to my heart. I almost had a panic attack when I won tickets to Kevin and beans last breakfast with Green Day. Front row and only like 100 people. Best show of my life..

Their longevity is amazing! Dookie came out when I was 10 years old and International Superhits dropped in my last year of highschool. That's MY upbringing all the way through, then it's like we passed the torch to your generation to rock with American Idiot through to FOAM... Now they're STILL making great music for the next ones coming through. Mind blowing!
