Absolutely!...their music is timeless.. LOVE THEM. That was written for Getoge Bush... Billie Joe called him an A-hole in an interview and got applause! He's authentic, doesn't hold back and makes no apologies!! LOVE HIM...SHEER GENIUS! FAVOURITE BAND..still putting out relevant anti-Trump music. Been going since 1987 and still writing phenomenal songs... who makes it to Broadway!!

I agree I would also recommend : Jesus of suburbia, Boulevard of broken dreams, 21 guns, when I come around, she, 21st century breakdown, warning, minority, last of the American girls, know your enemy, time of your life, that one with the music vid of the heart walking around, that one with the music vid set in a mental institution

The American Idiot album was a rebirth for Green Day. A whole new generation (your generation) got introduced to them. Their album Dookie was when I first heard them, that album was played all over the radio and MTV back in the day. And they're from my neck of the woods!

All of the individual songs on the "American Idiot" cd are great as stand alone songs. But the entire cd tells a story, and you really need to listen to the whole thing in order, and when there is an official music video of one of the songs watch it. Also, it helps if you can read the lyrics along with listening to the song. I am a 65 yr old (Baptist) Mom of three. I got hooked on GreenDay when my youngest was in high school. American Idiot is one of my all-time favorite music cds.

This whole song is super deep against a corrupt government. When Green Day came back to sing it live they tacked on "No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA" on the end. You should absolutely react to more of their stuff!! Also, if you wanna here a badass female vocalist, I would recommend Donna Missal. Maybe her song Keep Lying?

A little back story on Green Day for you. They were part of the underground punk scene in California's Bay Area in the early 90s. When they went mainstream by signing a record contract, their fan base was murderously angry with them for "selling out". I moved to Berkeley, California in 1994 and I remember there was a certain street on what we thought of as a questionable side of town that was covered in graffitied threats to these guys and lots of ugly language, cussing them out. Nothing really relevant to this song...just sharing my Green Day experience.

This song will always remain current, more & more! Oh so many songs to mention! Just go for it and check it out - Jesus of suburbia is a long one but has a full story line to follow Boulevard of Broken dreams - classic. Personal fave Hotchin a ride- just love the beat. On a side note I’d be interested in your reaction to Palaye Royale - massacre the new American dream & lonely. More music your parents wouldn’t have let you listen to😂. They’re heavily inspired by bands like green day & punk rock. Oh and you made it to the end of my comment so I’d like to let you know I appreciate you, your reactions & the time you put in 😁😁

Hearing how Green Day wasnt part of your childhood feels like nostalgic thievery, lol.. i lived on 90s Grunge/Punk music.. so let me ask you this.. ever listened to The Offspring? They til this day have a massive following. The lead singer, actually, ended up going to school and is now a PhD working on viruses, if im not incorrect.. but if youve never listened to them.. i highly highly recommend “you’re gonna go far, kid”.. which, is a stance against the machine, like this song... its incredible. Another typical favorite is “the kids aren’t alright”.. which shouldnt require explaining but the video is so ahead of its time and dope. I also want to know if you listened to old Blink 182 at all? But we’ll start with The Offspring bc its incredible to me how much of a fan base still follow them despite having disbanded a while now. 🧚🏻‍♀️

Yes! Green Day is my favorite band. They are also from my home town, Pinole, CA. I even went to high school with lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong's nephew. American Idiot is such a kick ass way to start the American Idiot album. It's amazing that this song is so relevant no even though it came out in 2004. The American Idiot album is a rock opera made by a punk band, something unheard of at the time, and should be listened to from front to back. If you want more songs in this style from Green Day I would suggest Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Holiday, or Jesus of Suburbia. If you want a more straight up '90s punk sound I would suggest Having a Blast, Longview, Redundant, and 80. You can't go wrong with most Green Day songs but these are a suggestion to start with.

If you want to dive into more punk PLEASE do some Bad Religion songs. I should let you know with your upbringing that they ARE NOT satanic, lol. The name came from all the televangelists that were being arrested and otherwise discredited in the 80s (when the band formed). The entire album "American Idiot" was written as a rock opera, as inspired by older bands like The Who. It was a bit of a departure from their more traditionally punk sound. The album is meant to be listened to from start to finish to get the full impact and meaning but each song can certainly stand alone. Billie Joe (the lead singer) is an amazing lyricist. This album was made into a Broadway musical and did very well. PS Your reaction to this and the Bo Burnham videos has just earned you a new subscriber.

Great reaction, one of my favorite bands and one of my favorite songs. Green Day doesn't mind putting their political views out there for the world to see. And for me, that will always make their music relevant. This song came out in the George W. Bush era, and the message can very easily be applied to today's administration, and the media. This video obviously applies: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2x8lpJvmqS6dKg.html

Love some Green Day. But if you want a virtuoso three piece band, check out Rush. YYZ - Live in Rio will blow you away.

Are you familiar with Flyleaf? They're a rock band, but they have a strong Christian flavor to a lot of their stuff, and Lacey Sturm has an incredible voice! Religion comes through in a lot of their lyrics in a way similar to TOP's, but never really felt preachy to me. Along with their other wonderful music, they have a cover of Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" that is excellent. As far as Green Day, Jesus of Suburbia (same album) is awesome, but LONG (the short version on KZread is 9 minutes). A lot of their earlier stuff was more standard "rebellious teenager", but American Idiot and after are REALLY political. I appreciate it, as I was raised on a diet of 70's protest music. but I know it's not for everyone!

I do know of Flyleaf, they sing "All around me" right? I think that was their big hit. I didn't listen to much else by them. Dang! The short version is 9 minutes! That is crazy haha

Why do so people pick up on and mention "Aryan Nation?" I just noticed the listed lyrics say "alien nation" - but I am not so sure that was really the lyrics.

"American Idiot" criticizes US actions after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and refers to questions about paranoia, propaganda and the media. According to the band itself. Greetings from Norway. 😀

Oh heck yeah I love this song and album!!! You are sooo right when this song came out I remember we had unrest with Bush and the gas price gouging that was happening. Since the Bush family were oil tycoons from Texas was why a lot of people blamed Bush. Geez now that I look back we had it good compared to what is happening now!!!

@@emalba7020 Yeah, for you maybe. Those who had their relatives killed in a illegal invasion and war of aggression based on lies in Iraq may have had a different view on that. Also, lest us forget that it was the authoritarianism of Dubya manifesting in the PATRIOT Act and such that laid the ground work for where the U.S. stands today. Just because Bush seemed like a confused, but loveable grandfather with his adorable Bushisms, doesn't mean he was much better than the Donald. The entire "compassionate conservatism" thing was a lie. In a certain sense, America has come home to America. I remember a friend of mine (who himself had relatives lost in the aftermath of American imperialism in Chile) remarking upon Trump's election that now America had elected it's first anti-American president, and as always in America in such cases America will coup against the country that does such a thing. In other words, the "system America" reached its inevitable apex. A truly prophetic statement. But not as much as Green Day, which like the Dixie Chicks and other very few early dissenters saw the impending doom years ahead. No surprise people on the right tried to cancel them. Ah - the kind of cancel culture the politicsl right isn't as eager to talk about - hear, hear. I

Green Day are at best pop punk/glam punk. Real punk died before Green Day emerged however, punk spawned bands such as this group. I stayed until the end .... Free t-shirt? No. ok.
