@@barto2jz The song eventually became church on sunday for warning and kill your friends for the longshot album. So it was one song that ended up being split into two different songs.

This is my favorite song on the demo album. It's super cool to hear how we got two songs (Church on Sunday & Kill Your Friends) based off of this one song. It makes me wonder what other songs are like this that are sitting around🤔Hopefully we get a demo album for the Warning songs.

Reminds me of their 1992 kerplunk record one for the razorbacks. Definitely a great tune

I love that this song is still technically used to this date, chorus is Church On Sunday from Warning Album and the melody of the verses give me a feeling of Kill Your Friends from The Longshot era

Sometimes I remember that Billie is a real person in the world and I just go, wow. Just, wow.

I find it interesting that the original lyric is "traces of mistakes" while the Church on Sunday version is "traces of my mistakes". I think the extra syllable makes it flow better, but that might just be because that's the version I've been listening to for 20-odd years though. I do find it interesting how the first version doesn't place the blame on anyone in particular while the revised version is taking responsibility though.

Green Day is awesome. This song taught me that they a very interesting creative process - with the chorus being added to “Church on Sunday”, and the other verses being added to “Kill Your Friends” from the Longshot!! :000 And this is only one example of why Green Day is talented as heck!

Absolutely loved hearing how this song evolved. It's been on repeat ever since I've first heard it! The lyrics "hey what would you say if I asked to kiss you one last time again. It really does prove how long songs can sit around before they are released. I was wondering where I’d heard the verse before, Kill Your Friends is awesome!! Wonder how many more demos mash two or three songs together?? They have absolutely tonnes of material.

After having the actual songs they created...this demo so many years later is just pure gold. Hearing the lyrics mashed up is just a pleasure to listen to.

It's very funny how Billie wrote a song about wearing black eyeliner and then, 7 years later would make it part of his image.

90's green day lyrics were on another level. Even 00's but the trilogy was my last years as a die hard fan. I really loved that band im forever grateful for their existence. relieving this album is amazing!

i know this became such a fantastic song with Church on Sunday, and another great one with Kill Your Friends, but holy shit, I wish they would've just tweaked this just slightly and given it a full chorus (whether that ne the CoS one or a different one)! This has to be one of my favorite songs from them now 💛 nimrod. and Warning are my two favorites, so I'm really happy we got all these demos and live tracks and 4K video upgrades (and cool new merch), and I'm hoping we get the same treatment for Warning (and of course finally hearing those American Idiot demos that we never got, maybe even Cigarettes & Valentines. the other albums getting this treatment would be awesome as well)!

Kill Your Friends + Church On Sunday = Black Eyeliner 🔥

I can understand why one would dismiss this song as undercooked, preferring the two more developed songs by which this plays progenitor to, but something about the subtlety and simplicity of just letting the verse settle in while Billie strums on the one instrument feels more effective and satisfying to me.

THIS AWESOME Im picking it up piece by piece and then you get the part from Church On Sunday and ya piece it with Kill Your Friends and you can see you're not alone when you have these pieces of music you just can't find a place for it. one for the razorbacks (i believe) had already been released by the time of this demo, so similarities are probably coincidence. Kill Your Friends and Church on Sunday 100% came from this song tho

@@jstarrsounds yes, one for the razorbacks was on Kerplunk (1992). I guess I don't see a difference between later songs and older songs. Kerplunk was released 5 years before Nimrod. Church on Sunday was just 3 years after nimrod, and since Black Eyeliner wasn't a released track, it makes more sense to say that Church on Sunday came out of this, and Kill Your Friends and One for the razorbacks exist more on their own.
