Greek PM asks train crash victims’ families for forgiveness as protests break out - BBC News

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has asked for forgiveness from the families of a train crash which killed 57 people.
The collision between a passenger service and a freight train has caused nationwide outrage, with clashes between protesters and police in the capital city Athens.
Some demonstrators set fire to rubbish bins and threw petrol bombs, while police responded firing tear gas and stun grenades outside the Greek parliament.
In a Facebook message, Mr Mitsotakis said that "in the Greece of 2023... two trains heading in different directions cannot run on the same line and no-one notice".

Ridiculous that they ask for forgiveness the minster of transportation in 20/2/2023 said that everything was fine and that everything worked perfectly in 2019 Mitsotakis said that he would fix problems that existed but the trains didn't even have basic features then they go out and order the media which they control to say that it was nothing more than a human error. Let me remind that the same party in 2000 in papers bought equipment to put on the trains for better security but after 20 years all the equipment that this party said they bought was nowhere to be found for 20 years the trains didn't even have basic security features to prevent an accident like this happening. AGAIN RIDICULOUS. He asks for forgiveness only because he dont want to lose the elections that will happen. Also this party has passed a law were they can judge wether a strike is illegal (most of the times they judge every strike from the people as a illegall)

Actually he should go in prison, because the policy of his government leaded to these 57 murders. But it's not only this. His policy is responsible for 18000 deaths of people who intubated not inside in an emergency room but in common rooms in hospitals during the pandemic of covid. He declare (December of 2021) that the intubation inside or outside an emergency room is the same thing, that the surviving posibilities are the same, despite having knowledge of a medical review that the posobilities are overwhelmingly less. He is a common crook and murderer

They also signed on to commit to the EU Continent's train upgrade on return for that help. Wish I could upvote your comment more. I do not know much about our reputation as contemporary seafarers but it does not surprise me. I suppose you've heard of Yannis Avranas and the sinking of MTS Oceanos. MS Express Samina was also a classic example of "Greek safety culture", as were other sea disasters. It's simply the mark of an uncivilized society, modernized far too rapidly technologically for individual and institutional maturity to keep up. Greece was and is a culturally backwards, toxic place with tribal society overtones, and too many people benefit from that for it to suddenly change now. What you describe is an inevitable symptom. Do not buy the us-vs-them populist narratives of Greek politicians abusing poor little Greek people, the latter know very well what they're doing giving power to those they give it to. It's simply how backwards people like to be governed. Even if it costs them a few dozen-hundred dead every once in a while.

It isn't like accidents like this don't happen in Europe, they do! But NOT under these circumstances. What's happen here is a result of long running corruption in Greece for years that's in case badly effected a key sector for the country. The people know they can't let this lie as if they do the same type of behaviour that was used to take care of the Transport sector will be used to manage other vital sections of the country, like infrastructure for example and then they'll be buildings falling apart. This is why the people must fight because their lives are still at great risk.✊
