One of the few truly honest and insightful economic voices on the world stage. Joseph Stiglitz is another... Paul Krugman to some extent, etc. But he is one of the few with a truly global understanding and the ability to communicate it clearly.

Mr Varoufakis is speaking to ALL of us and explaining in plain terms how far (we in the west) have fallen. The way in which the Greek people as a whole were collectively punished by harsh austerity by the so called TROIKA of lenders was a crime against logic & human values. That punishment was inflicted so that German, French and a small number of Greek financial elite could be made “whole again” following the GFC. So that Europa’s “political elites” could boast that Europe’s financial system was stabilised bw 2010-2012. For PM Tsipras to go to Washington in order to smile & sign a contract for US made airplanes for the Greek AF is like rubbing salt into existing wounds.

Varoufakis & members of DIEM25 need all the help & enthusiasm we can provide them with...Its a battle for the Hearts & Souls of Europeans - I hope & pray that unlike in the 1930s the outcome will be different!

The IMF is right when it now calls for a debt cut for Greece. But my government, the German government, will never agree to that. Not because they can't or would lose money over it, because we never gave on cent of German tax payer money to Greece, but our government made it look like we did, while we actually loaned the money from banks, often the same banks that Greece was in debt to. And if the government would now agree to a debt cut, the conservative voter would be livid and the CDU/CSU would've signed its political death warrant.

Thanks. And the sad truth is, that you really would've had to follow the development of all of this over the years to even know that it wasn't our tax payer money that went to Greece, because no major news source really reported on this on their front pages or in prime time. They didn't lie about it by admission, but by omission, and it sucks - big time.

Hers a question. Does anybody know? The subtitle of Varoufakis's book. in Canada is 'My Battle With Europe's Deep Establishment.' Is it just the subtitle of the book that has been changed for the USA market or has the text been altered as well? There's actually very little about America in the text that I have.
