Greece: A dazzling country | WIDE

At the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, Greece comprises territory that is both continental and also an infinite number of islands.
In addition to its exceptional archaeological wealth, Athens, the capital, is also a modern city bustling with life.
Proud of their beauty and of their unique lifestyle protected, amongst other factors, by distance, the Greek islands each have their own personality.
With guaranteed sunshine, a seductive way of life, and exoticism to hand: these are all good reasons to visit Greece.

My Greece is the Pelion peninsula. It is the place the Gods stayed on holiday. Pelion has everything. Mountains, deep forest, wonderful seaside and beaches, honey and fruit and wonderful Greek people. The holiday time for Greek people is August and Pelion is their dream holiday. The rest of the year Pelion is home for locals, and if you are willing to be a bit more adventurous about where to go in Greece, you will find Pelion as the most wonderful and heavenly place. Thank goodness that most Greek holiday films do not focus on Pelion, otherwise it might get TOO popular.

My family had a country house on Pelion, it’s a beautiful place, their main residence was in Volos, also lovely. Greece had many beautiful neo-classical homes built in the 19th and early 20th C., but most were destroyed in the earthquake in 1954.

i have been to Athens...it is a charming ancient city, nowadays quite touristy...there are lots of little food shops and souvenir stores and plenty of old architecture to see when walking around....its a good place to be not in a hurry...a good place to be young and in love the acropolis is in ruins and the stone hill it is built upon is polished and slippery for walking...it takes a vivid imagination to appreciate what it must have been, it is a shell now. Athens is a spiritual city, more spiritual than Jerusalem, because the gods of Athens gave birth to entire worlds and civilizations descended from Zeus and Hera and Athena and their culture all over the planet. What a wondrous place it must have been when Apollo and Poseidon and Aphrodite still ruled among men.

Not enough said and shown for a country like Hellas Greece.... Mispronanciation of names.... Why didnt you explain where the Acropolis sculptures are? Why didn't you say that they were stolen by the British Elgin, some destroyed and some found in the bottom of the sea.... You did not show the island of Crete where the first advanced and refined civilization of Europe began.... Not enough said for a country treasure that was destroyed and exploited for centuries...... A country that was leveled completely during the 2ww just because the Greek people resisted the nazis.... By the way, the Byzantines were not conquerors.... Please try to get things and history correct and show the respect my country deserves.

24:28: What a distortion of history! It wasn’t Aristotle who drowned in the strait of Chalkis but a man named Euripus, after a failed attempt to explain the tidal phenomenon, from whom the strait got its name. As a matter of fact Aristotle died peacefully of old age in his mother’s estate just outside of Chalkis, and now there is a bust sculpture of him in front of the town hall by the sea.

11:39 "which was not such a popular democracy, since only a small amount of the people of Athens were allowed to vote". Actually, in ancient Athens they implemented direct democracy which is actual democracy - THE REAL DEAL (All citizens were involved in the city's political life, instead of electing someone to represent them) !! Currently most countries have representative democracy which in reality is oligarchy under the veil of democracy. In ancient Athens only free men were allowed to vote and participate in the city's political life. Women and slaves were not allowed to vote, which is a pity but then again this is how their society was structured....

Before 2010 it was moderate destination in terms of cost. The last 10 years it is getting more expensive, but not something outranged. Almost same prices like the rest European Mediteranean countries (Italy, Spain, Portugal) and cheaper than France, I think. Depending also on the season you will travel here and your personal requirements and expectations. Very welcome to Greece!
