"It's one of the seven Dudley sins," awesome line!
I think we'd all kill for Jim Hacker to be the current British PM right now.

Any comparison with todays real world politicians and civil servants of today spoils the relief I feel when watching this masterpiece. I wonder if it's the same in all countries. I'm not even British. I find it hard to imagine that someone could write this today, maybe even hard to think that anyone can read or write in 30 years. Perhaps a bit exaggerated.
Best sit com ever written, and absolutely undertaken by 3 of the best actors of that time. Priceless

@Berty Considering how controversial Thatcher was, I think quite a few would argue that Hacker was the best since the 70's period. 😛
@timmygoldstein
Жыл бұрын
@@bertywooster1489 Even John Major was controversial due to his economic policy, which was roughly as disastrous as Liz Truss' - at least according to the Bank of England's records of the matter. Thatcher does get an invariably bad reputation for her hardline approach, which is also why Major isn't nearly as controversial, even though he arguably should be. What really irks people is likely the ideological objectives to couple the country to the European Union's affairs, leading to the economic crisis of his time.
The most incompetent Hacker moments seem like genius political strategy when compared to the current 10 Downing Street occupants

Genius writing which has never been beaten. So sad that there is nothing of this quality any more.
"When did you develop a taste for luxuries?"
A masterclass in comedy and comedic writing. Will probably never be bettered
The world needs this type of comedy today more than ever!
The best television we ever made, and still as amusing as ever. Such good entertainment.
Lovely intricacy of production where Humphrey pauses so believably in his sentence so Bernard shutting the door doesn’t drown out the dialogue ❤ 26:20
I want to have a clear conscience... When did you acquire this tase for luxuries?😂

oh, there were shows shot in much better quality many years prior to Yes, Minister. _StarTrek: The Original Series_ is one example. the original material could get remastered and enhanced to today's standards. however, it is a costly process.
I love how Sir Humphrey was so good at his job of manipulating elected officials that he was knighted outside hte show as well.
for those who wonder: "No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee."

It is a fundamental principle of the British constitution that the government must retain the confidence of the legislature, as it is not possible for a government to operate effectively without the support of the majority of the people's representatives.[3] At the national level, this means that the UK government (the cabinet) must retain the confidence of a majority in the House of Commons. It is possible for a vote of no confidence to succeed where there is a minority government or a small majority, or """where there are internal party splits leading to some members of the ruling party voting against its leaders"" . Where there is a minority government, the government may seek agreements or pacts with other parties in order to prevail in the vote and remain in office. Clearly the party is split, they didn't even have a proper vote on their new leader, Rishi secured his majority throug a deal with Suella Braverman. There is a criminal cartel at the heart of the tory party and british polotics. The Cartel have been playing a trick on us like a tired, lame Magician. We can see how the trick is done, we know how the tricks been done before, we know you're doing it again now, and wer're not going to agree again to double or quits. This is beyond ridicule, this is serious, this is a domestic threat to our democracy. There is no confidence in this government.
