    I grew up watching horse racing, my dad breed and raced for about 15 years before he moved up to Wellington in NZ, we had horses that would come from the back to win, we have a gra story about a horse called Trotski, the were running late to the race and they didn't brush him or anything, they threw on his gear and out he went, no warm up, straight into the starting gates, and he won the race with a about 5 lengths, then he wouldn't pee for his drug test, it was a stressful day for my dad his his father, it was a 5hr drive to the track as well

    They're great races but none come anywhere near the gutsy performance from Dawn Run in the 1986 Cheltenham Gold Cup. She is the only mare to win both the Champion hurdle and the Gold Cup. What's more, she was no bigger than a pony. She's my all time favourite horse. 😊

    Those small TB's are frankly honest some of the fastest and best racers out their, they show real heart out on the track, and they can move like lighting, my grandfather had a 15.1hh TB Stallion and he's incredibly fast for such a small horse, he could be on the other side of the pdk and within seconds he'll be 5m away from you, i'm talking this pdk is about 500/650m long

    Was she small? Saw her live a few times, inc the Gold Cup, didn't think she was small. But for greedy owners could have run up a sequence of GCs. And the only horse to win Irish/English/French champion hurdles

    +Evan Burlingham I did say they are your moments, and nobody can tell you otherwise, but, because they are relevantly recent (I have followed racing for over 60 years) I felt you might have chosen one or two others in your "greatest". Frankel was indeed unbeaten and nothing can better that. My "greatest moment" over the jumps would be Arkle's 1965 Gallagher Gold Cup, 20 lengths clear and broke the course record by 17 seconds. I forget the weight he carried. On the flat probably Roberto's 1972 Benson & Hedges Gold Cup when he inflicted defeat upon Brigadier Gerard by 3 lengths, also setting a new course record. There have been many great horses before and since, and some of them have won several valuable races more than once - Red Rum, Desert Orchid and Kauto Star for example in my time, but the specific wins of Arkle and Roberto above are the two "moments" that stand out for me. I do not expect people to agree with me, just the same as nobody can tell you what you like to eat and drink - you decide for yourself. Look how many different horses people claim to be the greatest of all time. Given the success of her numerous descendants (mainly through her son Newminster, but daughters too) I consider Beeswing to have to be rated amongst the best. She raced 63 times up to the age of 9 for 51-8-1-3. She appears back in the pedigree of a great number of great horses, but it is impossible to compare her with Frankel - or any other horse against which she did not race. I am biased because I was born fairly close to where she was foaled.

    DeathKitty123456 Sorry but Kauto Star wasn't 10 times the horse Denman was, and this win proves it. After this Denman had heart trouble, but still managed to finish 2nd in 3 Gold Cups and Kauto Star failed to finish in 2 more after his 2nd win. If you scored it on the same system as F1 25pts for win 18pts for 2nd that would give Kauto Star 68pts and Denman 79pts. I think Denman's win was the most emphatic Gold Cup win in many years up to the present, he simply was The Tank and ran them ragged including Kauto Star. I also think you're being a bit mean in calling the selections crap, don't forget the person who compiled this said they were his personal picks. I'm sure if you made up a selection of races people would't agree with your choices either, but that wouldn't mean your choices were crap

    David Kent denman wins kauto once on his bad day and he is better? Kauto was a record breaker, he regained the gold cup crown twice, easily better than denman, he was stabled next to denman and his achievemant door had double the plaques deman had. yes denman was good but kauto was by far the better horse.

  • @davidkent8606

    DeathKitty123456 Denman ran against Kauto Star 4 times and finished ahead of Kauto Star 3 times, so Denman 3 Kauto 1, an undeniable fact.The one time Kauto beat him was after Denman had his heart trouble. Denman's Gold Cup win was the most emphatic since Arkle, as attested by many racing experts, not just racing fans like us.

    DeathKitty123456 If I made a list of horses who have given me "Greatest Horse Racing Moments" this would be it Shergar Denman Kauto Star Best Mate Frankel Double Trigger Sea Pigeon American Pharoah Desert Orchid Red Rum and gallant old Mac Vidi. Now any list would be purely subject subjective, and I wouldn't expect others to agree with it, and as you can see 4thoughts doesn't agree with your Black Caviar selection for inclusion in a list.

  • @TheAgeOfLyrics

    so, this is the same for all equestrian events, you are you just talking about racing, cause this is how all horse events work actually FYI, a good jockey will not, i mean WILL NOT hit the horse with their crop, they often hold it by the face and ass they move with the horse it flaps in just inside their blind spot, and that give them more speed, and when it looks like they are hitting them, a proper racing crop will have a lather loop, and that produces air as the crop moves, and that's what gets the horse, i have studied it and testes it while riding

    every horse my father breed and raced is still alive and living great happy lives, we have 5 tht are other 30, several who in their mid 20's, several have been put down from blindness one broke a leg in the pdk but she was 32 and not looking very good, so the only reason a real breeder should put a horse down or set to the slaughter is if they are old, or if their is an unfxable/ death ridden injury American racing is more cruel then any other racing in the world, they have the highest death rate on the track then any other country

    amazed66 yes I'm sure they fed Roman Gladiators well too. They're not well looked after if they break a leg, cheaper to execute them. Imagine if the NHS had that policy? Treat horses as equal to humans.

  • @amazed66

    @amazed66

    8 жыл бұрын

    Bruce Hood Roman gladiators were forced to fight for their lives, racehorses are not. I’m sure you are aware of the saying that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Well you also can’t make it run if it doesn’t want to, which is why we often see racehorses withdrawn at the start of races for either refusing to go into starting stalls on the Flat, or planting their feet at the start in NH racing and if a half ton horse doesn’t want to run and a 10 stone jockey wants it to, then there will only ever be one winner there. No doubt due to your lack of knowledge about racehorses, you will argue that they are forced to run, yet when they get rid of the jockey, do they immediately stop running then or do they carry on running freely with the rest of the horses, being that they are pack animals and instinctively run with the pack? Cats and dogs are often put down by vets due to suffering and you make the naive mistake of comparing a horse and a human with a broken leg when they are totally different. A racehorse with a broke leg will have to be given box rest and kept off of that leg and whilst you can tell that to a human and they obey the instruction, try doing so with a horse. Horses also roll around in the field and in their box, which could then cause more damage and so in theory you would then have to artificially keep it upright to prevent that, meaning forcing it to remain upright on three legs for a long period of time (including sleeping in that position, which would be cruel) and without the exercise and racing that a racehorse needs, it will get heavier and cause even more damage by stressing the other three legs and other parts of its body. No the NHS doesn’t have the policy of executing human with broken legs but it does allow the switching off of life-support machines for humans, which would be the equivalent to a racehorse with a broken leg, considering in neither case the patient is able to function any more and so are put out of their misery. As for your rather ridiculous suggestion of treating horses like humans, if you owned a horse and your child was riding it out on the road and they were hit by a car, who/which would you rather be killed if it came to that, your horse or your child? Trying to put the same value on a horse as a human it just silly. None of that means that horses should be treated badly or that I must not be an animal lover going by my comments, but you have to be sensible and honest about these things.

  • @AmericanHero911

    @AmericanHero911

    8 жыл бұрын

    amazed66 Gladiators and Racehorses both put their lives on risk for entertainment. Horses do run when they don't want to, that's how you get horses effectively running until they have a heart attack and collapse due to exhaustion. You failed to mention once about how the whip causes pain and makes the force want to run out of desire to get away from the pain. A cruel operation is better than shooting the horse dead, I know it could be hard or expensive - but compared to an execution I think it goes without saying which is the better choice. Lol if I owned a horse and they treated equally my child would not be riding the horse on the road. No one would ride the horse at all, it would be in a large field or a forest away from dangers. You're question is flawed from the start. The Grand National and other horse racing events are simply not safe enough to guarantee the horse will survive. In many cases it seems the opposite - it's almost like 1 horse on average will die per year on the Grand National. But how is this still going on? There is something wrong and human are become aware of it - we cannot be complacent.
