Great White Tests Kayak Anglers' Nerves - Jukin Media Verified (Original)

Спорт

Great White Shark circles and bumps kayak anglers while fishing off Hartenbos. Estimated at around 4m long, the shark seemed way too curious and made it his mission to do a thorough investigation...at the cost of the anglers' comfort.

I'd imagine the shark would be more incline to leave you alone the more you engage and interact with it. This shark was very curious... possibly hungry... maybe looking to determine whether the kayak was prey or not. Swimming towards the shark is the opposite of what prey does...

+Damien O'Brien lol Damien, watching these types of vids probably wasnt the best move huh... It makes ya nervous man.! I do actually take mine out (my comment above was a joke obviously) and not so long ago I had an inquisitive dolphin swimming alongside me but I have to admit when it first surfaced I totally wasn't expecting it and nearly shit my boardies! It turned out to be an awesome experience. Where I live however (south coast of WA) they tag a lot of big whites and monitor their movements.. its alarming how many there are and how often they frequent shallow water only a coupla hundred metres offshore so I'm half expecting a proper scare in the future.

Charles Furer That is so interesting. I don't scuba dive, but I used to love the ocean, and snorkeling. I've heard divers talking about "sharky" feelings. One time, I was snorkeling off a platform in cozumel, that the locals had told me about, about 40 yards off shore. Underneath, the platform, about 20 feet deep was a sunken boat. I left my girlfriend, on shore and proceeded to swim out. I begin to dive near this platform, and I swear, I had that "Sharky" feeling, like something was watching/hunting me. Every inch of my body was screaming danger, danger. It was overwhelming, and strange because I was an ocean lover since I could walk. I had never felt like that before. I swam back to the platform as fast as I could, and climbed on it. I sat on it for a few, trying to figure out why I was so panicked, but decided not too swim to shore. I started yelling at my girlfriend to get help, someone came out with a wave runner. He gets there, and low and behold...there's a bunch of thrashing right in front of me, before he pulls up, and then, there it was, probably 8 or 9 feet and stocky. A huge bull shark.

Justforkicks there is a sunken plane about 20 yards past that or maybe we are talking about the same place. I remember eating at this cool mexican restaurant then scuba diving right off the coast by the cruise ship. I didn't see any sharks, but there were massive gar fish. That's insane, I was diving and swimming all day. I felt the same eerie feeling when trying to dive to plane (it was too deep) but I ignored it. Good thing you didn't!

You saw an 8 footer and decided to keep surfing?? An 8 ft. gws is still a juvenile and hasn't yet stepped up to eating seals and their ilk. But geez dude it can certainly kill a person very easily. A leg bite that severs the femoral artery and you'd exsanguinate before reaching the shore. Leaving behind any family and friends. And for what?? To catch a few more waves?? A spearfisherman barely offshore in Santa Barbara was bit on his swimfin by an 8 footer and got it recorded on his gopro. He was very lucky because as the shark was coming back for a second nibble he was able to jab it near it's eye with his spear gun. Shark wanted none of that and sped off. Idk dude be careful I guess.

In this case it would have been risky to do so, but teaching sharks to leave humans alone is better for both species in the end. The same goes for bears, as those who attack humans and hunted and put down. I've run into both of these animals in the wild, and for better or worse anything that shows aggression towards humans is also a risk to itself and is better off with a light warning, especially if you DON'T want to see them hunted or killed.

It was a 4m (12 ft) baby shark then, but it was curious and investigating trying to figure out what they were. Problem is, they use their jaws to "investigate" quite often. If it takes a test bite and spits the chunk of boat out, the boat is still missing a chunk. I have been told the best thing is to be quiet and still in hopes that it just leaves, making noise and splashing will alert it that you are indeed a living thing and may trigger an attack. But my testicles are not nearly big enough to actually do that and I would probably freak out big time. Oh well, gotta go sometime and fishing is fun if a bit risky.
