GREAT WAY TO MAKE CONCRETE COUNTER TOPS

This is a summer kitchen I built and felt this was an important portion of the project to highlight. I know it lacks some detail so drop any questions in the comments and I'll answer all of them. Thanks for watching and if this video helps please subscribe!

    Cool, simple and affordable. Redguard is smart. One of my early outdoor jobs I poured on top of some plywood that the contractor had set up. After a few weeks the top was all cracked to pieces from the expansion and contraction.

    Thank you for the comment Joel, it all depends on the size of the countertop. In most cases you will have enough time to work it to the point of troweling. If it’s a larger top you’ll need help. This one was about 20 ft.² it was easily managed by being alone.

  • @drumboyhedgehog

    @drumboyhedgehog

    2 жыл бұрын

    Easy, sand the concrete top using 120 grit on a palm sander, give it a good rinse with a hose on jet setting or a power washer if you have one. Make a portland cement slurry using pure portland + water. Do not bother letting it dry out, in fact, give it another quick spray and wait for it to be absorbed (this will prevent the concrete from instantly absorbing all water in the slurry making it unworkable within seconds). Use a drywall putty scraper to spread it around...work it in good getting all those pores and holes filled in. Work quick though, give it one final scrape across the top to remove the majority of the slurry that didnt end up inside a pore or hole. give it 24 hours to set and dry. Sand it with 400 grit sand paper on a palm sander until its nice and smoooooth. You could also try 600. Apply a coat of XS-327 food grade concrete sealer. Also, no counter is impervious to knife chops.. you will ruin most counters with knife chops and on concrete you will put scrapes into the sealed surface over time. This is why cutting boards exist ;). In fact its just good hygiene to always use a clean cutting board.
