My grandmaster in Taekwondo was one of the original students of the Chung Do Kwan in 1958. Being that way we learn a very traditional style and it is more about the art rather than competition. Just watching this video I could tell all of the differences between the two styles. We would be yelled at for keeping our hands down like that.

Juan, I'm so glad to see so many motivated kids. They seem genuinely engaged and are eager to learn. I wish more TKD throughout the USA had this much energy!!!!!! My Grandmaster is getting old and tired of being a "babysitter" so he has me (I'm first Dan and 55 years old) to do this. Any tips on how to keep the young kids motivated in sparring? Thanks, Rocco TKD USA of New Jersey

I love doing the fancy kicks, such as crescents, hook kicks spin kicks, and jump kicks. But your guard (the way you hold up your hands) is not the greatest as it makes the person's face susceptible to Quick jabs and makes your chest susceptible to hooks (both hook kicks and hook punches). The only thing that your guard protects is the ribs and a strike to solar plexes is much more effective (this is the area which is not guarded in any way). For the record I don't believe that a boxing guard is the best either (this is when both hands are guarding the face). In the end if you are training for fights which allow hands I would not recommend using this guard. For my credibility: I have trained in kajukenpo (this is a strand of kajukenbo which originated in haiwai and was made for street fighting and self defense) for 8 years and i'm testing for my black belt in 3 months, finally I also have been going to tournaments for the past 3 years and have been winning 1st place 65% of the time and the rest I have placed top 3.

It’s cool watching other people’s art, and learning different techniques. But like 99% of these taekwondo people I’ll destroy them in a mma fight.

You're stupid, If you want to destroy them. Why don't you destroy all the people in the mma. Not in this martial arts. Find someone who have the same level as you. The way you think is like a stupid bully.
