Great sounding Conrail GE stops for a crew change on the MGA. 2/01/1990

Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoyed this short clip.
We are on the Monongahela Railway Waynesburg Southern at White Cottage, Holbrook, PA. We listen to the fantastic sounds of one of Conrail's old 6 axle GE's leading and SD50. Conrail 6640-6753 exits the White Cottage tunnel with a north bound Somerset coal train. The middle of White Cottage tunnel is the top of the grade. The train is slowed down for a crew change that takes less than a minute. Meanwhile! The loaded coal train of about 12000 tons or more is draped over the top of the hill. So as the fresh crew takes over, care has to be taken in getting the heavy coal train started with out pulling a knuckle. All the crews where a friendly bunch of guys, and always quick to give you a wave or thumbs-up. We then head toward Waynesburg to catch the train on Pine Bank trestle, and one more shot crossing Tenmile Creek. Filmed 2/01/1990.
Sorry to say, this is just a memory now.
But Conrail is now a thing of the past, as is the Monongahela Railway, Somerset coal, the old great sounding GE's, the mines on the Waynesburg
Southern, and the Waynesburg Southern is inactive.

One of the best Conrail videos! Miss Conrail and the somerset coal trains. Very sad when the somerset line through Niagara County to the Power Plant was torn up.

Appreciated the video and memory of days gone by! The GE was a C36-7. I’m guessing it would give a more throaty chug than a lesser unit such as a C30-7. Thanks for the memory!

Love the sound of the dash 7 and prior units. The dash 8s and 9s seemed neutered in some sort. Then it got good again with the GEVOs.
