One of my very first planes, The Stik. However, I am a "Wet" flier, a small engine nut. First Stik had a .35 engine and a 9x6 prop. Next engine was a 40 with a 10x6 prop My current Stik has a .46 DBB and with a 11x5. One of the best planes to Learn R/C with.

Nice video, I'm planning to convert my old Big Stick 60 to electric, I think I will go with the same Turnigy motor you used, looks like a good choice.

Thanks for a great video. Can you comment on any thrust line considerations for your new engine mount. Thanks Martin

+Martin Schyns (ReCreate) Hi Martin, the thrust lines are exactly according to the original. in other words the motor mount is bolted directly to the firewall. no thrust angles are in the manual so one can presume the firewall is preset with the correct angles. Regards Rob

Did you guys have any trouble with prop clearance with the conversion?

i think we had a 3 blader on it to get good clearance. But we do fly off rough ground so need more clearance ;o)

I ordered the big Stik 60 and looking to do some modifications. Can any current owner give me the dimensions of the white areas (wings, fuselage and rudder) where the crosses are? Looking to get some stickers printed out.

Most electric conversions show the motor being mounted some distance from the original firewall to get the CG right. Otherwise one would need to add significant nose weight.

I had a disc blow apart under those rpms. I had to pick a chunk out of the back of my hand. Always, always heed the rpms listed on the package for using cut off wheels. You cant fix stupid( Thats what the sign in my workshop says). Just be careful, wear eye protection when using a power tool.

I'm planning to put electric onto a Midwest Sweet Stik. How did you determine the size motor you needed? Thanks

  • @Rcmodelgeeks

Ok this is how I do it.. I look to see what if engine it originally required and what prop size the engine turned and rpm. Then I look for a brushless motor that will turn the same sort of size prop at around the same rpm.

Sounds good. I'll find a match to a 46 nitro engine. Thanks for responding.

The great thing about modelling is you have to take lots of abuse right on the chin & only the chin. It made a change to be working in front of the camera this time, and as always a joy as a model..er to be a part of The RC Model Geeks (Mad Lot !)
