The great north Run route on Time-Lapse, from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North east of England to South Shields. It is a half marathon race of 13.1 miles.

Great video. It was lovely to see John Reid Road, Prince Edward Road and the Coast Road in South Shields.

Yes! I've lived in the area all my life. I took part in the 1987 GNR and remember seeing Tim Whately (of Auf Pet & 'Lewis' fame) on the Tyne Bridge. It was very hot and I found it difficult from the bottom of the John Reid Road to the Coast Road, since I'd only ever ran in 10 mile races. These days I prefer cycling - the South Shields coastline is beautiful and it's great to see it on national TV.
