Great North Run 2023 - Race Day - Maybe my best GNR Ever !!

Спорт

The GNR 2023 was one to remember - the hottest one i've ever ran (ive run about 10), and he storm after was something spectacular. The run was challenging for all of us, but there was still a lot of success. Met some great people and I'm proud of this run, partly because I was coming off the back of the marathon in Gothenburg last weekend, so obviously there's a question of fitness, lets see. This year it was the vaporfly 3. Please enjoy the video and if you enjoy it, please also like, comment and subscribe.;37

    Well done Matt. No PB for me on Sunday, I was a good 13 mins slower due to the heat but what a fantastic day, the atmosphere was amazing. As I was crossing the finish the Red Arrows flew past! I ran with a friend this year and we loved it. We met up with the Fordy Run Team on the Saturday and did a shake out run with them and their live podcast. Was a great weekend despite the weather and our bus breaking down and it taking us 4 hours to get back to Newcastle 😂. Great video thank you

    And well done to you Lorraine 😃 So good to hear you had a great race too. 13 minutes is fine in that weather. I was 8 minutes behind my PB, and although the PB bell was ringing for some there probably wont have been as many as normal. Great you saw Fordy and Co, for the shakeout, First time for me to meet Chris too - they are a good bunch. A proper day to remember !!

    I can tell how special this run is to you Matt. My wife has run it twice(her dad is from Newcastle) so she was telling me about how big it is, the atmosphere etc and she has said it’s better than the Glasgow version! Maybe I need to get down there. I can see how happy everyone is regardless of weather, lack of PBs, travel issues. Great video and your channel is way better than Fordy Runs.😂

    Thanks Kenny, your too kind. Yeah this was a great day at the GNR. Ofcourse I'll run some more, probably quite a few over the next decade or 2, but there are other races. I'll have to get to the Glasgow one one day. You'll do great at the GNR I'm sure. I've read the ballot chance is up to about 50% chance now, worth a go !!

  • @RunThePlanet

    @RunThePlanet

    10 ай бұрын

    haha beast ! Thanks Reto. Well the knee works better after a run and working it and the physio tells me keep doing it. Its not an injury sustained in running rather just woke up with it (not to say running has not played its part), and just generally tight I'm told despite the strength and stretch work I do. A couple years I also ran a half a weekend after a full marathon, so I knew it was possibly (set a HM PR back then too at Silverstone), but the heat of the day got to me this time. had to be an easyish paced full followed by a half marathon, couldnt do it the other way round I dont think (though one year i'd like to do the disney's dopey challenge). I enjoyed it, but in any case all focus on Valencia in December now.

    Looks such a busy big event. Reminded me of Berlin the long road full of people at the start. I’m trying to figure out why I can’t get hyped for it and enter the ballot for this. Would you say it’s the best half event you have ever run?

  • @RunThePlanet

    @RunThePlanet

    10 ай бұрын

    It's my 10th or 11th (10th I think, I really need to check 😂 ) I probably enjoyed this the best so far. The support was mentally good this year over past years, maybe the heat got people out. If you don't get in the ballot, you have to go for charity and that gets pricy. Though I think you can enter with the 3 year membership now £70. I'm already a member so I've got it. May not be quite a perfect PR course, but still fast enough and great to use it to tune up for say an October mara. We now have a gateshead marathon in May for the first time, also the half, easy to get in, easy to park, about 3000 runners, good but not a patch on the GNR.
