Great Lake of Ontario Chinook Salmon Fishing with Centerpin Gear
It is September and the Great Lake of Ontario Chinook salmon are on the run. This is the only chance of the year to witness one of the most impressive fish migrations on the Canadian East Coast. Usually at this time of the year fish are running up in great numbers but due to the lack of rain this month there are less fresh fish in the river system. These fish have seen many anglers already, there are easily spooked. In this video, I will be trying to catch a few fish using a centerpin setup but to catch these well-educated fish I will have to downsize my presentation meaning smaller mainline, floats, tippet material and hooks. Let's see if I can fool a few salmon with the finesse presentation. Enjoy!
Gears I use:
Rod: Rapala Concept Ti Float 11'6" 2-piece rod
Reel: Rapala Concept Centerpin 5" diameter reel
Line: Blood Run Mono 10lb Test in Clear Color
Tippet: Maxima Fluorocarbon 4-6 lb Test
Hook: Daiichi 1150 size 8

Nice catch. Those salmon are hard to land, lots can cut through the leader with their teeth. Good day.

Yes, some of the big males have impressive fangs. It is a challenge to land these big fish without a buddy to help with a net but I am slowly getting better at it.
Try fishing deeper pool it's way better.
