Great Jumping Gobstoppers! | The Krotons | Doctor Who
Ойын-сауық
The Doctor, Zoe and Jamie have arrived on a planet ruled by the mysterious Krotons. The Doctor soon discovers there's a form of self-perpetuating slavery going on as the best and brightest of the local population, the Gonds, are being selected to become companions of the Krotons -- a fate from which they never return. Determined to put an end to this practice Zoe and the Doctor take a test which will allow them to become companions, but will they be accepted? Classic clip from The Krotons, first shown in 1969.

Yup and then Zoe showed him what button to push. Good duo but I don't like how they were always yelling women and saying they were stupid back then.
“Now go away and don’t fuss me, no come back what’s this? It’s alright I know” - The surviving footage is slowly making him my favourite, brilliant :D
Even after all these years, I still miss Pat. Such a great actor.
Oh yes, you can see where Matt Smith picked up a few of his Doctor's quirks.

Probably because Troughton was in his 40s so he had a parental relationship with his companions whereas Smith was in his 20s, so he was just the "wacky friend"

I think it was also to do with the fact that Patrick Troughton could actually pull off the element of mystery which I feel is necessary if you're going to play the Doctor, whereas Matt Smith couldn't and David Tennant could but the scripts just wouldn't let him for the most part and instead restricted his acting to emo love drama. That's not to say that I disliked the non-mysterious Doctors like Smith, Tennant and Davison, or that they were objectively bad - they were all able to carry a sense of wonder and appreciation for travelling and seeing the universe, but they just couldn't/didn't carry the "Who" in Doctor Who.

MaddoxProductions1 I'd say in the Classic show the Doctors got less mysterious in each incarnation - until the Seventh. The Ninth Doctor was definitely the most mysterious New Who Doctor (though he was less so than Hartnell or Troughton). It works better if the companion is the viewpoint character imo (though to a limit - Clara definitely had too much focus at times) since it means the Doctor doesn't have to front and centre so he can retain an air of mystery.
He's my favourite one :D It's such a shame that he's the one who suffered the most with missing episodes.

'You've divided instead of multiplying!' pretty amateurish mistake for the Doctor haha. Love this companion set up, possibly my favourite.

Zoe is a maths savant level genius the Doctor barely passed remedial classes. She's not joking when she says "the Doctor is almost as clever as I am"
His relationship with Ben was rather forgettable, but besides that I love Troughton's interactions with his other companions. I daresay the Two/Jamie dynamic is perhaps the best Doctor/Companion relationship in the entire show, and of course his intelligence battles with Zoe are lolarious, probably just as good as the ones between Four and Romana 1.
@SuperWolsey

In fairness to Ben, there wasn't enough time on screen for him and 2 to gel (though the books and audios managed to recoup that). If anything, he wound up in the same spot Vicki was post her debut through the Myth Makers

@@SuperWolsey It also didn't help that Ben was a serving military man and it was in the Second incarnation that the writers decided to make the Doctor suspicious of the military. Note that's not necessarily hostile to the military, their role or violence as it was moronically retconned into in nWho but more a suspicion of the authoritarian mindset it encourages.

The 2nd Doctor:"Go away and don't fuss me! Come back what's this!" The 11th Doctor:"I'm being extremely clever up here and there's no one to stand around looking impressed! What's the point of having you all?" Me:"Yeah, no ressemblance at all."
Even without taking into account that without Patrick troughton doctor who would’ve not continued, he is still the best doctor ever

The concept of the Krotons is uniquely terrifying because of their longlevity and indestructibility. Even if the Daleks managed to detonate that stupid "reality bomb" the RTD made up for them it would just result in a universe full of slowly reforming very pissed off Krotons who will then go Dalek hunting.
"Oh, dear! I've been working in square roots!"

Frazer Hines (Jamie), says he thinks was a naff story......and to the actors it may of seemed like that, working on the serial, with its enclosed setting and wobbly Krotons...........but the viewing public, obviously liked it a lot, as it had a high audience count, and to me it must of been quite good, as i remembered watching it back in the day, particularly those extermination guns out in the wasteland!
OMG! IVE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWERE FOR THIS VIDEO

When I see the snippets like this it just makes me sad so much of Troughtons good work was scrapped, so much humour and chemistry between the actors all gone cos the British dont value their TV history properly like America does.

Ah poor Zoe there were literally no good companions in Troughton time besides Jamie and a little bit of Ben and Polly although they really retracted their personalities after Jamie came on board.
