Great Horned Owl knocks a Bald Eagle off its nest!!
In this video, the American Bald Eagles that have been nesting in a tree on our farm have a visitor in the middle of the night. A great horned owl attacks them in their sleep and knocks Willie out of the nest.

Farmer Derek lives and works on the Klingenberg Family farm and ranch. He works with his Dad and two brothers. They raise Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, Cattle, and Cats. They background all the cattle and then graze them in the Flint Hills and they end up at the feedyards in Western Kansas.
The farm was started in the mid 30's by his grandpa who immigrated from West Prussia in 1923 when he was 9.
Growing up, Derek's family priorities consisted of church, family, work, music, and eating a lot. He now has his own family of three cute girls along with his wife Kara. Derek spends his time working on the farm, dancing with his girls, and making KZread videos.

We heard at a presentation about eagles that when they build a nest and then migrate, the great horned owls will use the nest first, since they nest in February, and the eagles will use it when the owls are done. They told us about some eagles here in Minnesota that would come back in the spring, and if they owls weren't done yet, they would just hang around and wait. Maybe Minnesota owls are more passive aggressive, just like Minnesotans.

@@ericbunch6772 😆😅 This isn't about you and your attitude about your food! This is about how bald eagles and great horned owls interact in the wild. Great horned owls will drive Bald eagles out of a nest and once they have decided to keep it especially after laying eggs is pretty tough to get them out. If the eagles had laid eggs they might be difficult to push out as well. Oh, we can all do without your American Patriot ego trip!!

Bald Eagles, like most diurnal birds, see poorly in nighttime darkness, so even if they were awake, they would be nearly defenseless against large owls engaging in swooping attacks. Most large owls see and hunt very well in the daytime, but favor dusk and nighttime hunting, when their favored rodent and lagomorph (rabbits, hares) prey is also most active. They are also less likely to be attacked and harassed by diurnal birds of prey if they hunt at dusk or at night. There is a reason why Great Horned Owls engage in flying attacks on large dangerous adversaries such as eagles and Humans; this reduces risks to the owls themselves. You've probably seen the video of a female Great Horned Owl grappling with a Red Tailed Hawk over a nest; the hawk tried a swooping attack on the sitting owl, but the owl defended herself and the nest (hijacked from the Red Tails) by presenting her talons at the last moment to the swooping hawk. There is also a video of a Northern Barred Owl engaging in a suicidal attack on a male Bald Eagle (smaller and less aggressive than his mate) sitting on his nest in full daylight.

@ryckak But talking about this, we must talk about logic. There is no comparison between them. The eagle has a huge body and does not give up easily. There is a video of an eagle facing the lion and it did not fly. For this eagle does not give up and if an owl approached him, the fate of the owl would be death. It is true that there is a video of an owl attacking the eagle, but it can only attack the eagle at night when it is sleeping and is not super. But during the day the owl will die if it gets close to the eagle

Maybe, maybe not. Once the owls get established especially if eggs are laid it's hard to push them out. Conversely if the eagles had laid eggs it would be hard to push them out.
