Just picked one of these up, it'll be my personal carry forever, and an heirloom for my family. Your review is on par with the quality of the knife - comprehensive and insightful, thank you and God bless!

I got the same knife plus another in the bloodwood, Tidioute version. Both are perfection. I was hoping for a full length main wharncliffe blade, but research in history reveals they made these just like this one, as well as others with the full length wharnie. And to be honest, I think this shorter main blade as a wharnie is actually more usable for craftsmen, vs a full length main wharnie. Ya have more precise cutting control, plus the blade doesn't ride as high in the frame when closed, compared to a full length wharnie. So glad I was able to snag a couple of these gems!!!

What a comprehensive review by the apostle p. Great Eastern Cutlery makes some beautiful knives. Somewhat impossible to get lately, but boy they are works of art. I love that burnt orange bone and the review.

Thanks for that video, Rob. I have this knife, but I didn’t realize how much attention to detail and engineering go into making this pattern. I just got me a edumacation!

You'll never find a better made factory split-back whittler than these.

I have a Queen made Winchester Whittler that has a very similar frame . Made in 96 . I believe Bill Howard was still there at that time . And mine has a warncliff blade that extends past the tangs of the secondary blades . Amazing knife . I hunted the Winchester up when I realized I couldn't get a 38 .

Yes, Bill Howard was still with Queen during those years, and the Queen made whittlers during that time period are really nice knives. I'm guessing because yours was produced under the Winchester trademark, it has 1095 carbon blades vs the stainless 420 used on the S&M branded knives. That's a real plus with your Winchester whittler!

I forgot to mention in my other comment: this is the coolest & classiest blade etch GEC has put on a knife yet......IMHO.

I was fortunate enough to land one in Bloodwood and yes, it is excellent. Good to see another good old GEC review from you Rob - it's been too long! Enjoy Rendezvous, and as you caress your English Whittler spare a thought for us poor English souls for whom such an event, or indeed any knife show, is an improbable dream...

Yes they do. They’re under the “GEC” brand, rather thank Northfield or Tidioute. Most are in 440C steel, but a few have been 420HC.

These are hands down the most difficult traditional patterns to make. Very classy & usable. Ya may wanna seriously hang on to that puppy. Just sayin'. Bill won't make these again for a very long time........if ever again.
