GREAT DRUMMERS part 3
Музыка
Third part of a line-up of live footage samples from the greatest drummers of xxth century. A work basically centered on Jazz, but not exclusively, following a kind of chronological display, always limited by the availability of footage material on those incredible musicians. The modern drumset or drum kit was completed by the 20's, under the designation of "jazz drums", after the invention of the hi-hat pedal system that controls a pair of cymbals opposed to each other. The 'Hi-Hat' designation shows a clear reference to the period of the 'roaring twenties', like it happens in France, where it's called "Charleston". The drums evolved up to its actual configuration, and are used nowadays in Pop, Rock, Soul, Rhythm'n Blues, Blues, and many other musical styles, besides Jazz.

I just watched all three of these. Wonderful material here, very inspirational. The old legends were the best of the best. Thanks for posting so we don't lose touch with our heritage as drummers. :-)
Thanks and sorry because the 2 last parts, with Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnnete, Paul Motian, Gregory Hutchinson, and many other great drummers of more newer generations are yet to be finished. Some personal problems forced me to delay the prodution of those 2 final video selections that are the deserved tribute to those more recent jazz drums masters. My apologies. I hope to make those 'collages' the soonest I can. Obrigado, my friends.
Been studying, watching and playing for 65 years and only now have I seen like a third of these guys fully on. What a GREATt thing you've done bringing these guys to us. Especially that incredible mind bending stuff of whatever the hell Sonny Paine was doing! Thank you sooo much!
So many great drummers. So humbling to watch these people. Thanks for assembling this footage. There were some included here that I've never seen before and was absolutely floored! Great job. I hope you can finish this series.
smooth nice light touch that thigpen has ...all were / are great , would love to see the styles these guys had come back for a while ... oh well as they say ... Those Were The Days My Friends !
Thank you, Rui, for making these clips available. I had no idea of the genius of Ed Thigpen, Elvin Jones, and many others.
Much Love and much much respect to them all
He also makes a quote in the solo, from the melody of 'A Love Supreme', from Coltrane. I love quotes!
Very Very nice job on this series!! I watched all 3 sections Thanks for making it. This should be required view for all up and coming drummers... including rock drummers!
the song with chico hamilton is awesome
Thanks much Rui, I got a good education from the first 3 videos. Hope your personal problems pan out. Looking forward to your more recent additions. In addition to those other jazz/ fusion drummers you mentioned, don't forget to add one of my favorites, Airto. Speaking of Airto, I wonder if your list will include that vague category known more as 'percussionists' rather than drummers ... particularly with the world music influence on jazz ... I am thinking of people like Nana Vasconcelos or Armando Marcal from the Pat Metheny Group, or Colin Wolcott from Oregon.
thanks for makin these dude i cant stop watchin em haha
perfect features, beautifull clips of the best drummers, you miss Huub Janssen, very good jazz drummer from the netherlands, sadly past away.

Why don't you, by yourself, make a 2 hours video documentary about Butch Miles? Why not, really? 'Miles', yes, 'Dewey Davis', the rest of the name... And... sorry, Steven, but there's so many good drummers that aren't in these video compilations that I've made years ago... And understand, please, there's absolutely no way of pleasing everybody that did look to those videos... because the human being is never satisfied, and is very critic at anything that the other human being does... it's in the Human Nature!
