Great Central Railway - The Mountsorrel Branch - A DMU to Nunckley Hill

A trip on a preserved class 101 DMU built in 1957 from Quorn & Woodhouse station to Nunckley Hill on the Mountsorrel Branch, and back. These trips do not happen that often but I finally managed to get one. Unfortunately the trains were not going on to Mountsorrel Station due to limited clearance issues.
The Heritage Centre has a re-creation of a quarry as well as a museum and was giving shunting demonstrations with a Ruston 48 and vintage wagons.
This was originally a mineral only line serving Mountsorrel Quarry and never saw passenger services.

What a great job has been done to get that branch line living again, and I wish the folk all the best for the future. Not sure about the way that chap was coupling the wagons, but if it works for him, and is within their safety regulations, then good luck to him. A very enjoyable video. Thanks.

Can’t believe double track and a branch. It seems no time at all since GCR was industrials Littleton no 5 and Robert Nelson no 4 hauling trains.

With all the fears of global warming and the pollutants from exhausts are steam and diesel railways a problem, should people be going on needless journeys when it is a potential cause of such detrimental effects, well1 they preserve historical machines and buildings, 2 they help educate the young, 3 they help the memories of the old, 4 they aid the tourist industry. So let's hope they can continue in a cleaner way, in the future .
