Bob Bednarski was a 3 time overall medalist at the Worlds. He won in 1969 last male US lifter along with Joe Dube to win overall gold. He was so good they established a new weight class for him. Prior to 1969 heaviest class was +90 kg. Bob weighed about 250lbs so US officials lobbied for the 110 kg class and Bednarski was first World champion 1969.

Paul Anderson was the strongest man in modern times. No drugs or steroids. No weight lifting shoes. In one photo, he is shown back squatting 6601/2 pounds wearing sneakers!
