Grazing Dairy Heifers on Stockpiled Forage equals More Profit!

Ойын-сауық

We moved the dairy heifers into the perennial stockpiled pasture. There’s a lot of grass stockpiled especially for December 17th in Minnesota.
Also talk about how grass based dairy has a lot of potential to being a really profitable enterprise

Those numbers are pretty impressive, would be pretty cool to see all that ground in grass! Keep up the good work Jordan.

Hi Jordan, something very relaxing about seeing cows grazing out in the open fields. It is interesting to see how selective they are in what they eat. Looking forward to watching your operation as it grows over time. If you don't post a video before Christmas, want to wish you and your family a great Christmas Holiday.

How much is raw milk on the market selling for per pound, you said 40 pounds a day a cow how much is that worth .what I see that’s about 7.00 a cow (.16per 100) x100= 700.00 a day x 365 =255,000.00 a year

We actually won’t be selling the raw milk at that scale. For that farm we will be selling that milk on the conventional market. I would say conventional price we can figure we’ll average $18 per 100cwt on average maybe even more but better to figure low than high. So with a little supplemental grain for the conventional grass based dairy we should easily get (40# per cow X .18) = $7.2 per cow per day and if we wanted more seasonal maybe only milk from 4/1-12/31 then they’d be dry for 3 months we’d get $1980 per cow per year gross. Should easily be able to run 1 cow per acre and maybe even able to harvest some hay for winter as well potentially but planning on buying most hay though. I should do a video breaking down costs for dairying compared to other enterprises.
