Just for clarification the clothing used in this video is to illustrate and contrast Grayman vs Tactical clothing, that doesnt mean that you literally need to wear gray clothing. As indicated in the video grayman is about finding the cultural baseline and trying to match that, if everyone is wearing flannel shirts with beards than you should do the same, if everyone is wearing a suit and tie, you should do the same. In some places "tactical" is gray etc. Generally speaking gray is a very neutral color. You can get these backpacks here. Even my rifle is just plain old iron sights; if I'm getting in a sniper duel I'm probably fucked anyway. I envision more foraging than fighting. I used to be homeless. It's a long story. Crazy lemme tell you. Most wont be able to mental handle being homeless, so they go to drugs, drink more, or get high. For me getting high and alcohol was big, especially in the cold winter time. I had to have heavy clothing in the winter. And put myself near a bridge hidden so no one seen me or at least the raccoons and rats. Most people who seen me usually didnt know I was homeless. It was a tough time but ended up finding out different tactics and methods to literally survive on no money at all. Food was a blessing to me. Now at 24 years old (I was 21 back when I was homeless) I have a good construction job and blessed to have my own studio. God bless and stick together when shit hits the fans 🙏

The people who look prepared are the first to go down. In the military i learned not to wear USMC clothes or military gear like that. If your in the store for instance and the crook notice there is a military person right there they will shoot or injure that person as their first move to make sure the person who looks like they can jump in and stop the bad thing from happening is removed from the equation so then their plans are not ruined. You become the target before you even notice there is a target and the attention has shifted from holding their weapon directly to the person at the cash register to maybe holding you as a hostage or using you as an example of what will happen if the cash is not handed over. To maintain a low profile is usually best for many reasons

I've been to rural areas many times and they dress the same way people do in the city. Whether it be cammo or a button up. I have come to the conclusion that people stick out in small communities because, its a small community. You probably haven't seen them around before. Every single person I know from the country dress more "city like" (fur, leather, designer jeans and flannels) than the people I grew up with in the city, we were quite poor to middle class where I'm from and you wore around town what you wore to work. Which was usually work boots, a t shirt, and jeans. As a matter of fact I am of the belief that country folk are quite high end, similar to the downtown folk. This is just my experience. So being gray still seems superior to tactical if you have to cross both city and rural areas.

The difference between Gray Man and Tactical Man has as much to do with how a person carries themselves as how they dress. Walking around with a I'll stomp everyone's ass look regardless of how you dress will illicit a bad response. Do to my own situational awareness I observe how people react to the presence of other people and myself in different situations. In most cases the average citizen lives in what I call the 1 meter box. Anything outside that box that doesn't directly effect them is virtually invisible. Especially with today's smartphone hypnosis. The use of tactical clothing by the general public has made even it invisible in many places. People today are so caught up in their own struggles unless you do something to hinder their movement or physically touch them. Your presence is just a blur in their lives. generally the only people paying attention to their surrounding are the ones being paid to do so or other people who use Situational Awareness in their daily life.

Not quite... if a house is known to have guns, it is more likely to be burglarized. And while we don't have statistics for backpacks, I would assume the same applies. Tactical guy looks like he has a gun in that bag, better steal it. I would say in addition to that, those tactical backpacks are usually heavy (molle webbing ads a lot of weight if not used for zero benefit). Also, there might be inconvenience in your daily life. E.g. you might be more often chosen for "random" security checks. And people in general will be less cooperative because you look unfriendly. I also don't think that people are scared of someone dressing tactically. Projecting power is more a personality treat than and attitude than the way you dress. Clothing might enhance it, but either you have it or you don't. Most will exactly think what was mentioned in the opening "what is this guy compensating for". Personally, I like bike-backpacks, they sit very well, usually have lots of compartments for organization (often on the belt, for easy access), are lightweight and optional can have a back-armor (e.g. EVOC).

Both have their place, I remember when I was deployed we had a platoon sergeant who alway made sure we all looked "dress right dress" saying that insurgents were less likely to attack a proffesional and organized looking platoon and just let them pass and would be more inclined to ambush a raggedy "ate up" looking platoon that seemed to be relaxed and half assing it. I don't know the validity of it but it stuck with me, I'm more of a fan of the show of force as a deturance and that bad guys like predator wild animals will seek out the weakest looking in the herd. If you are scavenging for supplies the greyman look would probably be the better option.

Years ago when i was a national power and weightlifter, i was huge. 31” thighs, 20 1/2 inch arms, 35 inch waist and a 57” chest relaxed It got me attention People stared and noticed you everywhere you went They avoided me like the plague because they assumed i would have this bad ass attitude and want to snap them in half If it was shtf, i would have stood out like a sore thumb no matter what i wore Great for hauling tons of gear in the woods but a beacon in the city (i was a martial artist and boxer too so could move with the bulk as well as being fit for the military) That was in the mid 80’s Now that i am in my 60’s and have lost a lot of that bulk, i can move around more easily without being noticed. So i reckon if shtf and you have to move around the city, gray man is good In the woods the tactical stuff would be better so that you dont stick out like a sore thumb It also depends if you are moving to get out the city, foraging for supplies that you are locked down and cant get out for what ever reason, or if you did get out and are now in the woods and need to disappear from marauders etc If exiting by vehicle a change of clothing of each with a pack cover (if you got a gray man pack carry a camo cover and vise versa) in your vehicle. "Tactical" IMHO is merely a marketing strategy to sell pseudo military style outfits and equipment to wannabe army and marine types who have grown up shooting evil geurilla fighters on Xbox. A lot of stuff called tactical is Chinese Junk. Better to have the equipment and skills you need without advertising.

I agree, I see both types and I see many people wearing everyday clothes with a brown or black "tactical" backpack. I know alot of people who buy them as there are very versatile and generally well built. But alot of it can depend on what types of clothes you are wearing while with that bag. But the biggest weapon is knowing whats happening around you as much as possible. And then knowing how to react to situations around you with the tools and knowledge you have. Just because a dude comes in to the restaurant your in and robs it at gun point and you carry, doesn't mean that you should take out the threat.

The tactical vs. grey man discussion is an interesting one. As it is said, there is a place for everything and everything in its place. Both backpacks can function as a grey man pack. But if you really want to blend in, the less tactical the better. As long as you have those necessary items in your grey man pack to get you home or around in an unknown environment. The tactical backpack is great for the outdoors(battlefield, bug out, disaster event) because of the extra space for gear. Grey man dress vs. tactical dress is another issue. I have read that it is not a good idea to wear leather because it can reflect light. So, polyester, fleece, denim or cotton clothing can be helpful. And most important of all is to relax and act naturally. You don’t want to give yourself away if you are in a combative mindset. You are on your own and you don’t want to engage with anyone no matter what skill sets or gear you have to defend yourself. Great presentation. Thank you.

Also noticed a difference when changing external vs concealable bullet proof vests when treating patients. More often than not a psych pt will be more willing to work with you if you don’t look like a cop. making behavioral pts feel less threatened will result in less altercations/ sedations.

The Gray Man, can handle more situations. However, if you want to keep others away, then you may go with the Tactical one. I would think the Tactical, may be more useful in a stationary position such as a camp guardian, etc., or for concealed movement in a forested area. The Gray Man, allows for more movement between areas.

I confirm cause i use tactical packs and im a woman. I get looks (in metropolises) occasionally but notice how im never approached unlike other times I looked plain where i was more approachable and annoyed. In metropolitan places, using some tacticool stuff, people left me alone and definitely not try to fool me unlike how the cons treat tourists who are using plain stuff. In rural areas and wilderness, its considered outdoorsy since i see other hikers with tac packs as well. I live in CO now so i see tac packs so much that you honestly wont stand out. I used to live in NY and yeah i get a few stares but like i said, theres a contrast at least for me. Also as an introvert, its a plus. Locations can also be a factor. Regardless, i think if anyone wants to do harm to anyone, i think the least they would be concerned about is how one looks. The only times i think people will care is if they're looking for a suspect with a matching description which would suck but can and has happened to many people. That or if your in a foreign country because either route you rep, you will still stand out as American or European.
