Both the Afghan war and the Vietnam war were lost politically not militarily. At no point did the Vietcong or Taliban overpower US military forces or win a single battle against them. You may look it up and prove me wrong, these battles have names like the Vietnamese Tet offensive or Operation Mountain Lion in Afghanistan. All these battles were won by the US. They lost politically because succeeding administrations did not want to continue the task of previous administrations.

@@peabase thats also politics, and to be fair to the Americans (Im not American, Im Asian) both Vietnam and Afghanistan were lost because the indigenous people they were allied with did could not hold up their end of the bargain. The South Vietnamese and Afghan people could not fight on their own and relied too much on American combat capabilities, naturally the American public grew tired of sending their men and money to a place that didn’t really benefit them. For Afghanistan the public also had a sense that, hey Osama is dead, we killed him, Al Quaeda is dead, we spent a Trillion already, lets leave and go home

Okay but is not luck, is all about having good investment plans most of all trading with a trust worthy expert. Also, since most countries don't produce all parts of a weapon/vehicle within their own borders then the allies and friends of a country also play an sizable role in how the military will perform in long term engagements. Just look at Russia's struggle to get parts for their airplanes (some of the more sophisticated parts were previously shipped in from other countries) limiting its air effectiveness in their invasion of Ukraine.

The USA has contributed more than 130 billion dollars till the date for defence aid to Israel. But still Israel is very weak if compared with the US, Russia, China or India. And these countries can easily destroy Israel. So definitely Israel's military isn't the most powerful military in the world.

If you only know about two wars you should get a reality check. Have you not heard about the events in Myanmar? Nigeria? Somalia? just to give a few examples.

The most powerful will be the one that remains neutral. Also on whose side God is.

China is not battle tested. The UK can't even afford a military, Pakistan is a paper tiger, Italy can't protect power and Japan is occupied by a foreign country. North Korea and Iran should be top 10.

I think you can't really compare military power base on spending, materials (hardware )and manpower alone, if you look back at Americas war with Vietnam, or afghan war, were the most powerful military ran away with their most advanced weaponry, you 'll see that big numbers without the will ta stomach loses is sometimes worthless, Some countries wit good economy, enough military hardware and big military interms of personals just don't have the will to fight until last man standing. I guess what I mean is that good numbers don't always translate into success on the battlefield.

You fail to mention that the US wasn’t even trying to takeover Vietnam they was intervening in the Vietnam Conflict. The United States occupied Afghanistan for two decades and took the resources right out of the country.

Wrong. It's a question of how much a country is willing to pay for a war. Was the US's fight against the Taliban an existencial threat for the US? Did the USA switch to war economy? Were they sending everything they got?

yeah, not really sure where they get the info that an untrained & uncoordinated military who is frequently low on supplies/parts is somehow # 2 and 3. While they have the potential to be strong, corruption and poor training really hinder their strength. So I think Russia and China should be closer to 5 to 10 instead of being 2 and 3. My only guess is that the organization that ranked them is taking old data before Russia flopped on the invasion of Ukraine and China was found to have widespread corruption in its military.

That's why they destroyed 500 thousands NATO trained men along with all the weapons given to Ukraine. The world seen the weapons of NATO in the counter offensive that was supposed to break through Russia's defense. 40+ countries with billions can't even beat one country.
