As a Lithuanian, I am happy that my country is finally getting some attention, as I think that it has been unfairly underrated. We have a long history, and the fight against large authoritarian empires and the will for freedom has been forged in our millenium of history. Indeed, the 1st codified national democratic constitution in Europe was signed in 1791 by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Lithuanians are stubborn people, we have resisted Christianity the longest in Europe, and maintained our language the least changed from the Proto-Indo-European among the living languages. Every Lithuanian learns in school that Lithuania has once been the largest country in Europe. It is part of our identity. So those who are surprised by the actions of Lithuania would not be if they understood the history of the country. Lastly, the reasons for Lithuanian moves are multiple. I will just mention one: a few years back China had sent its warships to the Baltic Sea. The message was received loud and clear - China has now become a threat. And it is so regardless if US or EU supports us.

My country Germany couldn't just divert all our China trade to the Baltics, but one of their nations could easily increase trade with Europe when China spits on them. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp, really. That's exactly the reason why the biggest nations recognizing Taiwan are either (still rather small) islands or part of Central and Southern America where China isn't a big export market other than for agriculture maybe. I mean it's not a shocker that the Vatican doesn't care who they recognize as they have basically zero GDP unrelated to the Catholic church, which China tries to dictate to them as well.

Well I don't think that was intentionally made that way. I still think that when reporters do their job they will put presidents face on top cause he might be more recognisable, thats it. Does it do justice for ministers? No, but it is what it is, im just happy to see Europe that doesn't give a damn about theirs members struggle, and I hope that other EU member states do something similar to the point where EU will have to stand behind its member's, and will start pushing it's weight.

@Avi Tee Lithuania is a semi-presidential republic, meaning that we have a prime minister and a president, while president has some powers like a power to veto a law(veto can be canceled by parliament, but it needs 71 votes), or have a power to prevent ministers appointment, but in reality it is the prime minister who holds most power to rule a country. Prime minister is appointed by the parliament. In 2020 parliament elections a party called TS-LKD won election and formed coalition with LRLS and LP(LP was criticized by Chinese for mentioning Taiwan in their program). The decision to establish Taiwan office was made by them, and even if the president would disagree, he has no powers to shut it down. It is very unlikely that TS-LKD along with their coalition partners will back down from Taiwan thing. Even if Lithuania loses millions for supporting Taiwan. However, Lithuania has a tradition of never re-electing the same government since we got independence TS-LKD and LP lost popularity, with only LRLS having stable ratings. Lithuanian government is very unpopular for many reasons, I think nobody believes they will win parliament elections in 2024, this means that in 2024 an opposition parties will likely take over. So I can give you a little information about them... LVŽS(a party which is highly against current goverment) criticizes Taiwan office thing, leader of that party says it should be named Taipei, also member of that party who is in parliament called China a strategic economic partner. China also complimented LVŽS leader. However LVŽS is having a hard time as a party, this party had a split(former prime minister Saulius Skvernelis left party to create a new party Democratic Party "For Lithuania") not only that, but parliament member Agnė Širinskienė who was party leader's right hand left party and left a very negative feeback on the party. So LVŽS is VERY unlikely to win election(in my opinion). Right now LSDP is the most popular party in Lithuania, LSDP is known for having a softer foreign policy and they criticize TS-LKD's foreign policy. So I could predict they might rename office to Taipei... other parties like Democratic Party "For Lithuania" and DP haven't expressed support towards TS-LDK foreign policy, however, some members of those parties visited Taiwan on their expedition group to Taiwan. But also some members of those parties expressed support towards China and visited the Chinese diplomat in Vilnius. So to sum up, Taiwan office will remain with "Taiwan" as a name at least until late 2024, even if our president doesn't support Taiwan office thing. I also don't think that Lithuania even with a different government will pursue high relations with China. Taiwan and Lithuanian relations will not collapse I believe even after 2024. I don't deny a possibility that LSDP and TS-LKD might form a coalition government in 2024, in such case, Taiwan's office name has a chance to remain.

The World should learn from Lithuania and other Timy nations. SALUTE TO LITHUANIA FROM INDIA..
