I always am impressed with the precision of all Japanese people… Amazing !! Not shocked at all the a JAL flight pulled this miracle off… I flown that airlines before going to the Philippines and I promise I will fly them from now on!

very true...well said..remember that dreaded Emirates Flight 521 from Trivandrum crashed on landing in DUBAI?? I could not reiterate more how those passengers blocked everyone because others were taking their bags. The Japanese people have a very well known culture of discipline and that culture of discipline saved everyone's life.

Yep, I recalled the same incident and that the investigation later did show that fellow indians were busy grabbing their bags from overhead cabins 😕.I have many people in family and friends who would absolutely do the same 😖

I think every country is asking themselves this question.

I’m American and married to a man from India. Unfortunately, the behavior I’ve witnessed on my many flights to Mumbai and back makes me fairly confident that if this would have happened in India, the fatalities would have been in the hundreds. When I brought my hubby to US last year, he chewed out many people because it was his first time flying and he was ashamed of how Indians behaved and scared he wouldn’t be able to get off the plane if it crashed. Airline rules are there to keep you safe. Why do Indians insist on standing up to go to bathroom or get overhead baggage during takeoffs and landings? Do people not understand how incredibly dangerous that is? I’d love to understand why so many think their possessions are more valuable than their and fellow passengers lives are.

can't blame them, they live in densely populated areas where competition is happening. It takes times to adapt.

The presenter is right, it is normally the entitled people that kill, they will insist they are first and how inconvenient it is that they cannot get to their makeup bag from the overhead locker, staying around to protest to the flight crew at the door taking off their heels, complaining that they need their makeup to set themselves up for the live streaming event. If it's not recorded it never happened for them.

if this would have happened in India people would have died not because of the accident but due to stampede.

3:57 each of us know the short answer "NO" ... & long answer "HUM KABHI NAHI SUDHARENGE" ... Discipline, etiquette, mannerisms, obedience and most importantly the compassion to others has become extinct in this country. Hope, such incidences would help open up the eyes and learn from mistakes... {To put into perspective, just each of us should remember what would had happened years ago at Jayprakash Narayan International airport, Patna... precious lives were lost just because of utter negligence and insensitive response from onlookers. }

Just remember Emirates flight which caught fire in dubai airport. Passengers who blocked aisle should have been prosecuted by DGCA and put on no fly list.

In India,the 90 seconds rule is not thought, Airlines and Disaster system should train on the 90'seconds rule. also ~30% of the population might not involved or learnt about the fire drill . thanks to the systems in school's now a days they train. but rest of the non-working population should have some re-iterating system of fire drill . in a movie theater or over a short video during the TV shows. this can enhance the learning of 90 second rule and being patient for there term.

I'm speaking this as a Japanese here, but I'm not liking this trend "it would have been a disaster if it had happened in other countries" that I'm seeing a bit too much online. If we want to speculate, we can just as well speclate on what could have happened if the collision knowcked out the pilot, or started a fire inside the cabin, etc. There were many fortunate coincidences that allowed people to survive this unfortunate accident, and perhaps Japanese culture was one of the fortunes but that might not have been enough if other things were just slightly different. We can all speculate on what would happen if this was in other country but we wouldn't know for sure until it actually happens, and hopefully it wouldn't happen anytime soon... We should learn from this accident, but please don't push too much on "because they were Japanese" thing or discrediting of other cultures. That can easily put people off or leads to wrong lessons.

From what I heard it was also the type of plane. The a350 uses different material than the a340 used before. Older planes use aluminium which in case of a fire melts easier and the construction and the plane would have collapsed. The new material though burns down after some amount of time but keeps people safe from fire.

A very humble comment to be honest. I'm an Indian and I'm pretty sure that we Indians would not have made it out of the aircraft given exactly the same scenario. I've visited Japan recently and I've seen the Japanese discipline and I'm pretty sure that's what made this evacuation possible. The only reason we Indians would not have been able to do this is the lack of discipline. People would have panicked and blocked the aisles. Selfish ones would have been reaching out for their handbags from the overhead compartments making it worse. A prime example of this is the Emirates 521 crash in Dubai back in 2016. You can find videos from inside the cabin of that flight on KZread; and you'll see what I'm talking about

I think many would be taking or try to take their cabin bags and their belongings.

I’ve flown on Indian airlines a few times and I’m sorry to say there is no discipline at all when the aircraft lands it’s chaos everyone out of there seats before the aircraft comes to a halt pushing trying to get off, so if that had been an Indian aircraft there would have been big casualties

***BRAVO, Job well done to all the Flight Attendants***..in keeping focused, your training and experience was displayed in this remarkable speedy, safety and accountability of all your passengers. I do believe the Japanese Culture played a big factor in this focused discipline of Human Survival moment. We as Americans and as a society need to take note and respect. Peace be with you.

Yes. Very worrisome indeed. Here, every Indian is full of pap-u-like righteousness, i know it all, you are wrong, gyan. Narrating a personal experience. During a routine landing in Germany, everyone stayed put, plane taxied, stopped, doors opened, the seat belt signs went off - and what happened next was truly a wonderous sight. From the first row, passengers got up, hauled their bags from overhead bins, moved away - only then did the second row move and do the same. It happened row by row by row till my turn. It was fast, it was relaxed, it was easy, no jostling, no up and downs, no touching anyone, it was so Dignified. Not sure it was the discipline of the Germans, or a sort of disembarkment training, etc, but was a treat to see.

Japanese passengers might give up their lives in their minds, in the burning plane. that's why they didn't panic at the crucial moment and everyone could escape from the burning plane.

They took over 15 minutes until the last person got off the plane... How much longer would of it been if they took their bags? With the turnover of pilots and ATC personal I'm fearful more of these events are going to happen

Newer reports say it did complete within 2 minutes or so. The 18 minutes includes everything from the moment of collision @5:47 to the decision of which exits to be used to the actual evacuation of the last passengers @5:55 to the pilots and the captain’s landing on the ground @6:05 after they double-checked the cabin for the possible remaining passengers.

After landing communication tool between cabin crews and captan didn't work. Cabin crews should confirm everything about the accident and safe evacuation root. It is very difficult, because they could't get any information from cockpit and conrol tower. They tried to communicate to cockpit and gave up it and decided to make evacuation by themselves. Most passengers evacuated with in 8 minutes. Finally tha captain checked whole cabin and found some people still remain in the cabin. The captain intstructed them to evacuate. After chceking whole cabin, the captain also evacuated. It was 18 minutes after crash.

Newer reports broke down the timeline. The collision occurred @5:47, the flight attendants decided to start the evacuation without the captain’s order (the intercom was not functioning by this time), the passengers evacuated by @5:55, the pilots double-checked the cabin, and the captain landed on the ground from the slide @6:05. Total 18 minutes. We have to wait for the final report, but it looks like it did took only less than 2 minutes from the time the passengers start exiting till the last one landed on the tarmac

Every passengers were out within 8 min after impact. The plane was on the move, so it took time to stop it. Then the flight attendant tried to contact the captain with no much luck before they took the initiative to open and process the evacuation. Which took less than 90 seconds. That's why the news are talking about. The extra 10 min was the crew checking out they haven't forgot anyone.

Nonesense. They no way got out in 90 seconds . They could only use 2 slides. They took 18 minutes. They were very very lucky. The plane did not explode. It was low on fuel. The fuel tanks are full on take off, not landing.

If this happened in India, passengers would pray in the cabin waiting God to help !

IIt took 18 minutes from the initial collision time for the cabin crew to confirm that no passengers were left on board and for the last captain to disembark. It is said that it took less than 90 seconds for passengers to evacuate after the door opened.

The 90 seconds is from slide activation. The flight attendents had to first determine which slides would open to safe escape routes. That took several long minutes to fully confirm only three exits were viable. Opening the wrong slides would have probably resulted in mass casualties from smoke inhalation and panic.

Just youtube how people board train in india, that would answer if the same scenario happened in india

It includes from the time of collision @5:47 to the captain’s landing on the ground @6:05. The passengers evacuation was complete @5:55, and the captain’s landing on the ground from the slide was @6:05, hence 18 minutes. Newer reports say that it did take less than 2 minutes from the time the exits opened till the all passengers evacuated, including 12 non-Japanese who probably didn’t understand Japanese. They were lucky, but worked together to survive.

In India ? No prioblem happens all the time in india its called povity, India and pakistain flights are renouned for being amounst the worst in the world.
