I love this!!! As a horn player of just under a year, I find this so inspirational and my incentive to keep playing. My goal is to play at this level, and I think the motivation this fuels me with will help me achieve that. Thank you :)

Hello, for starters, nice job I really liked that performance. I came here because I wanted to see if it was possible to play multiphonics on the horn, and I got my answer. I really want to do it now so now I will start trying out and experimenting with that. Do you have any recommendations for me. (I'm just a sophmore French Horn in high school, but I'm planning to continue in the future and I like learning new things on it). Thanks for your time.

haven't, that's a great suggestion. I did make a video about multiphonics, and I find that that helps. kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5d_r8itZd3KmZs.html&lc=Ugx0mZe77zhlvsU2fdd4AaABAg

Hello Mr Gelfo, I'm a former student of former super-soloist Jean-Marc Dalmasso, and I've stumbled upon your video by chance. I've been working on that multiphonic technique since a few years now, and I've been thinking this: We all agree that the classic multiphonic skill is to play a lower note like normal, and then you sing the note that is above the played note; it is also safe that if you have more than one multiphonics in a row, it's better that both played and sung notes are in a similar motion if they move at the same time; if the played note stay the same for multiple multiphonics, then there's no problem singing upward and downward notes on that played pedal. With all these notations being taken into account, my question is: will all of this work if the played note is higher than the sung note? Here's my thinking process: Take for example the first three minutes of Respighi's "Poema Autunnale" (originally for violin and orchestra); at the beginning, there's a very soft violin solo with very close double notes; my arrangement takes these same notes (an octave lower), but I would play the upper notes and then sung the lower notes, even if sometimes their motions are contrary. If you wish, I might upload a PDF of my arrangement in a future comment, or by electronic mail if you may. Thank you in advance for reading my comment (and your possible response).

Hey there Aurélien, thanks for writing! Counter movement during multiphonics is totally possible and just as easy (when you practice it) as parallel movement. It doesn't matter if you're singing above or below. I would love to see your arrangement, you can email it to Marc (at) marcgelfo (dot) com, sounds cool! Just practice
