I like zero-turns, but I *LOVE* my 428D!!!! Once you have a Grasshopper...there's no going back; no living without one. Bought mine about 6 years ago with over 2000 hours on it, and I use it every week to mow off 6-7 acres on my place- it has about 2800 hours on it now. I just LOVE mowing with it!

Great video! Thanks for posting, really helped me out on my 2000 721D. I do love my Grasshopper, still runs great after 24 years. Being in the mowing business years back I ran JD 1145's, 945's , Walker's , Z Tracks bat wing mowers. The Grasshopper is the one I chose to keep.

My 1994 720 is still going strong. The only big thing I've had to replace in 30 years is a broken drive axle... I'm pretty rough on it.

Have had our Grasshopper for 18 years. 1200 hours and no issues so far. Local dealer support has been an issue at times since the franchise has moved around my area. Kohler Command Pro engine. Heavy duty equipment.

I love mine, 722d 2004 model still KICKIN!!!! Troubleshooting a no start issue and decided to watch your videos. I believe it’s the switch interlock, when I turn the key it hums and buzzes at the switch interlock solid state component . I will do a little investigating tomorrow.

I have a Grasshopper 220 ztr that I purchased new in 2007. Well over 1000 hours on it and have done nothing but oil changes and belt replacements, plus a few new batteries. I also grease the deck spindles regularly. Built like a tank as you said!

Well, you learn the most valuable lesson I learned as a child in the 60s. Living in the south and being a person of color. Dad always said this. Machines are like people. We used and abuse them daily with no regards to them operating everyday. Every once in a while they get sick and need doctoring. Machines need to be repaired, so always have a backup for such emergencies. That's why smart bosses have more than 1 valuable employee. My Dad had to be fired from KCS Railway in order to relax and enjoy life. Always have backup, I do.

My philosophy exactly! I have 27 acres, and if a machine is down, things can get out of hand quickly- so I tend to buy groundskeeping equipment in duplicate- i.e. 2 weed-eaters; 2 chainsaws...and 2 ZTRs. If one breaks down...just grab the other and keep going, and then fix the broken one at your leisure. (Could really use 2 tractors too...but good ones are hard to find at a reasonable price!)

I have grasshopper 321d, 721d, and a 428d. My 428d has about 2000 hours. My 321d has about 1500 hours. My 721d has about 600 hours. I think they are great mowers.

I have a Scag SSZ and got it cheap because the previous owner thought the hydraulic pump was bad. It had a leaky hose that caused the belt to slip.

I'm not yet in the market for a riding mower. I expect when we move out of Marion county in the next 2 years, that may be when I'll be looking for a zero turn. Good information video Adam.

Love my 725DT. It replaced a gas 727T efi. The only reason for the change was a “consolidation” of my fuel supply. I noticed you have a rear hitch. Could you please give some details. Thanks.

On this unit you can, as it's a manual lift deck. I'm not sure about the newer models that are electric lift. Newer units also have 'powerlift' option. On those, you press a button and it picks the deck up several inches and kills the blades so you can traverse sidewalks or other obstacles. As soon as you let go of the button, the deck drops down and the blades come back on. Pretty cool.

Remember that the right side will always be the weaker side on a zero-turn.

@@IndyFarmLife My apologies, apparently I was retarded yesterday. The left side is the side that is on the uphill stroke of the engine's crankshaft. Regardless, there was obviously much more wrong with the hydros on your front-mount than just this. Hope you were able to get it worked out & not too costly to do it. I have a 900 efi Grasshopper & sold them for 4 years so I'm a firm believer in their products.
