This video has an error...a is the distance from the pole to the intercepts on the axis perpendicular to the axis of symmetry (for a limcon of the cos function: Θ=π/2 axis), which can be explained by inputting the "zeros" of cosine into the function which results in (5, π/2) and (5, 3π/2)...that's where you can find a. The locations for the end of the inner and outer loop are found from the min/max values produced by the cosine function (1 and -1), so they are found by making Θ=0 and π For example, look at the graph of r =2 +3 cos(Θ), you'll have points at the following locations: (2, π/2), (2, 3π/2), (5, 0), and (-1, π) [which is (1, 0)...that's an r value of 1 which is not |a| from the pole] It just happens that your inner loop examples work, but that's because you chose a 1/2 ratio of a/b. It's just simply not true. It's simply not correct! You could use |a-b| to get the distance of the inner loop to the pole...even easier to find the equations for all limacos: a = distance from pole to intercepts on the axis perpendicular to the axis of symmetry b = the average of the rectangular cooridnates of the two intersecting points on the axis of symmetry Also, it is not pronouced Lee-ma-cons, it's french (rough translation for snails), it sounds more like Lee-mey-son I'd fix these, especially for your students heading towards Calculus in which they will need to know how to write these correctly!

Laura Gray thank you! I was just thinking the same.

a banner during the part of the video indicating this error would be very helpful since students aren't necessarily reading the comments
THE DESCRIPTION OF LIMACON GRAPHS WITH INNER LOOPS IS *NOT* CORRECT. The length of the inner loop is |a-b|, and the distance from the origin to the end of the outer loop is |a+b|. PLEASE FACT CHECK YOU VIDEOS SO THAT THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WATCHING DON’T FAIL THEIR MATH TESTS MAKING THIS MISTAKE.

If you don’t believe me, try graphing r=5+8cos(theta) on Desmos. You will see its graph is consistent with my description, not the description in the video.

THANK YOU 🙏 YOU'VE SAVED ME
for people who are watching, |a| is NOT how you get the distance of the inner loop. it is |a - b|.
Nice video. It saves my life before the test.
Best explanation I've heard to date. Subbed for sure! Thank you!
You’re amazing. I was practically banging my head on a desk for hours trying to figure out how my teacher did it.
I have no words to describe your generosity
This is the best video I found to solve my problems!
Let’s say for a+b sin (theta/2) I’m assuming the the graph will lie half and half on the y axis?
This video is amazing!! thank you so much!
Thank you You made my life much easier
Love this! Thank you so much!

Thank you!
Excellent effort🔝
Wow... So easy
It mistook at 05:35 min that small loop is lbl-lal and other part is 2lal so you can check by math program.

I was taught the other part is |a+b|??
Thank you so much 🤘
hidden gem on youtube
You sir are a godsend
Great..
Thanks 👍 a lot This explains everything
you are the best sir thank you so much
Best explanation..
Thank you so much. So helpful
better explanation than my professor
Thank you sir, this video very helpfull👍
This was rely helpful thank uuuuuuuuu
Nice keep it up

Yup!
Cordially appreciate this lecture. Clarity and vividness is a key factor in your video. Easy and simple words spoken and concepts conveyed without creating any confusion in the mind of a viewer. What I couldn't figure out is Who my teacher is. A male teacher or a female teacher. I would appreciate if you let me know your name.
❤️❤️❤️ 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍 thankyou sir
What if a=b?

limason not limaKON
It is something like Lay -may-son, not limakon when you pronounce it. Please make corrections.
I will pray for you
You should have reuploaded this video..such a bullshit😮
I believe your pronunciation is incorrect. Limaçon is a French word so the c is pronounced as an s. So The first pronunciation lih-muh-son is correct.
