Graph the reciprocal function with a reflection and translations

👉 Learn how to graph the reciprocal function. A reciprocal function is a rational function whose expression of the variable is in the denominator. A reciprocal function is of the form f(x) = a / (x + h) + k, where h is the vertical stretch/compression, h is a shift to the left (if h is positive) or to the right (if h is negative) and k is a shift up (if k is positive) or down (if k is negative).
To graph a reciprocal function, we first sketch the graph of the parent function f(x) = 1/x and then apply the required transformations.

Pretty good teacher, if I was in the class I would still probably be a little slow but when it's in a video form you can re-watch.

What happens when you have a number in front the denominator? Like 3(x+1) is on the bottom of the fraction, what does the 3 do? Or if your fraction has a fraction? Like one over one-eights?

what grows faster x or x^2, whenever the denominator grows faster than the numerator then the limit will be zero as it approaches infinity and negative infinity

Don't we have to multiply the y-coordinates by 3 since the function is -3f(x-1)-4

no it is f(x)=-3(1/x-1)-4 or multiplying the negative 3 in you obtain f(x)=(-3/x-1)-4
