Granite Mountain Hotshots - An Experience We Will Never Forget

In this episode we visit the memorial site from the movie, Only the Brave. On June 28, 2013, a fire that was started by a lightening strike took the lives of 19 young men who were fighting to save the small town of Yarnell, Arizona located just north of Phoenix. Only one member of the crew of 20 survived.
For us what started as an idea to take a pleasure hike turned into a 4 hour visit to the memorial and an experience that will stick with us for a long time to come. The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park is part of the Arizona State Parks system.
As full time RVers we are very fortunate to be able to visit some amazing places across the US and beyond. In all honesty, this one stands very close to the top.
Note: Though we work to make our videos fun and entertaining, there are instances such as this one where we stumble upon the moments to take pause and just let it be exactly what it is. A moment to reflect and to pay respects.
Thank you for watching.

Can not imagine burning alive. God bless there souls. This will give people camping, drown your fires, stir your fires until out! Not all fires are started by camp fires, lighting is a big problem. Just a reminder to do our parts. Including me! How sad!

Had to watch thru tear filled eyes. Not exploiting.....just honoring. Hope folks think of these guys when they consider building campfires in drought conditions. When we get to AZ we will go to honor those lost and those who continue on to serve. Thank you for sharing this.

Very touching video. Thanks for sharing. My son works for the Forest Service in Colorado and is responsible for designing, building and maintaining the communication systems used to communicate with firefighters. He shared with me not long ago that these 19 firefighters are what inspires him to maintain the best communication system he possibly can so a tragedy like this will hopefully never happen again. Those 19 firefighters are heroes and my son is my hero, too!

Thank you! You must be incredibly proud of your son. It was a tough video to shoot because we didn’t want to risk exploiting the misfortune of the firefighters. It was a very sobering experience. Thank you again for watching and commenting.

So sad, poor young men🥺 were they buried at this site? We have to thank God for all the firefighter, the nurses and doctors who are putting their life at peril for us. I thank you God for those men in Jesus Christus Name. Amen❤🕊❤ The life is so short guys. We must be thankful and praying for each other about everything.
