Grandsire Caters (Half Muffled) at Christ Church, Swindon, Wiltshire
An excerpt from a half-muffled peal of Grandsire Caters on this superb ring of ten, followed by a lower on the back eight and some film of the belfry. The bells were cast and installed in 1924 by Taylors of Loughborough to replace an older octave, and are one of the finest rings of bells in their weight category anywhere.
The peal was arranged and rung to mark the centenary of the death of Christ Church ringer Private John H Odey in World War One. The second bell here was given in his memory.

i love half muffled ringing and especially o. a top shelf ring like these. it allows the sustain of the tenor to be heard. Nice to know Brian is still ringing peals. tell him it is 60 years this year that the bells at St Anns was augmented to an 8. He was the tower captain at the time

A shame my camera can only film for 29 minutes - the handstroke homes about two hours in were superb!

@@RingerJamie St Mark (the 8 in Swindon) is my home tower, but I do ring at Christ Church when commitments allow (though sadly not all that regularly)

they're clearing out the rubble to start rebuilding it now ! would love to ring there if they get the tower rebuilt alright
