Grandpa's Railroad Movies Upper Midwest 1950's

Reposted. This video is the movies taken by my grandfather of a trip he made from Detroit to upper Minnesota in the 1950's. Shown are his trip across Lake Michigan on the C&O ferry - apparently the City of Midland 41, DM&IR steam at Proctor, MN, the ore dock at Two Harbors and what has been identified as the J L Mauthe bring loaded and assisted by the Edna G, and last the AA ferry arriving Manistique and being switched by the M&LS.

Yes, the only video of the M&LS I’ve ever seen as well. My family is from Manistique and my dad remembers watching the old M&LS diesel as a young kid. It’s so amazing that I got to see a little bit of what he probably saw as a young boy. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video!

These videos are phenomenal. Look at those huge articulateds! Thank you for sharing. Your grandpa was WAY ahead of his time. Wish someone would have filmed my local railroads in NE Ohio in the 40s and 50s when they were still active.

This is the only MLS video I’ve ever seen. Incredible! Thanks.
