Mum thought her father's racehorse Bookful might win the Gold Cup at this Makaraka race meeting in Gisborne.
I was home from Canterbury University with my 16mm 'wind-up' Victor camera, so Mum gave me £2-10-0 for a fifty foot reel of Kodachrome to record the race - just in case.
Her prediction was right and Bookful won. Mum actually made some money on a horse of Grandpa's - for the first time!
