Great hike, with lots of views and rock scrambles. They should route the A.T. through there! Enjoyed seeing those rocky cliffs and the crevasse.

I saw your last few hundred miles on the AT and enjoyed it. I really loved this hike with all the different rock form actions. Always wondered about Grandfather mountain 😮😮😮... Keep sharing NC😮😮 Thanks for sharing.. Hoping to see more

SO glad to see you back on trail!!! Grandfather Mountain hiking was a piece of cake for you. I laughed out loud when I saw the rocks and steepness because I thought - that is NO PROBLEM for you! I would assume the mountains are calling you pretty hard and you were smart to go hike for your piece of mind, if nothing else. Beautiful views! I agree, too many people but it is what it is in those spots. Thank you and looking forward to the next one!

Wow, how many days off the AT and you’d back out on a challenging day hike of 12 miles r/t. Why? I have read most AT veterans suffer an after AT depression or melancholiness; would you say that is accurate? Oh and which brand & style of hiking poles do you use?? ❤ love that you made this post . Keep making them. 😊

It’s been a challenging return to society. I miss the trail. I hope to do a few shorter hikes soon!
I knew you couldn’t stay away from hiking too long! When I was 5, in 1975, my parents took me to Grandfather Mountain and onto the Mile High Swinging Bridge. As Honey Stinger can tell you, I am extremely, “Vertically challenged,” and I didn’t come close to being as tall as the handrails are now. I kept thinking while I was watching the video, those handrails weren’t there in 1975, or I wouldn’t have been so scared. After the video, I looked it up, and sure enough, they weren’t added until 1999, when the bridge was rebuilt. I remember there being cables/ropes where the handrails are now, and no spindles between, like the handrails have. I don’t think I’d ever been so scared as I was when we were crossing it, and the wind started blowing pretty hard. The cables were above my head, so I held on to one with one hand, and just about cut the circulation off in my poor dad’s hand from holding onto it so tightly!!! Sadly, I’ve had a fear of heights ever since.
