Grande Ballroom Detroit SPRING 2023
What's going on with the historic Grande Ballroom? The fire escape has been torn down and the side window freshly re-boarded up. A dumpster full of debris has been removed from the inside. Other than for that, the Detroit music venue that once hosted bands like Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Beck, Procol Harum, Cream and The Who looks the same as it has for years.

My dear friend big Brother Wayne Kramer hired my company to paint that mural for the 50th anniversary of KOTJ

Wow that’s an incredible story! I hear a lot of love was made in that place throughout the years, but you & your wife are likely the LAST ONES to ever christen the place…a point of pride for sure!
My hangout during the day. Wow! Seems like a hundred years ago. Wish I would have kept all my souvenirs. Saw Janis, The Who, Jeff Beck, Cream and so many other classic groups.
Great Job Brother keep us posted Please !
Utter disgrace this building has been left to rot by the present owners . One of the most important music venues anywhere, ever - this should be compulsory purchased and saved for the USA...
We used to line up in that alley way before the shows. sad to see her in this condition.
Very sad indeed. Hallowed halls of RNR deserve better. Credit to the artist of the mural of Wayne Kramer. Thanks for the look at the once revered structure. 🍻
opposite condition to the very normal historic residental house next door its sad to see this - i wish it was rehabbed whilst there's still a chance but thanks for posting, i live in iceland so i can't go visit it myself lol

I think it’s too late for this one to be saved :( Thanks for watching from Iceland! There are many important historical buildings falling to decay in Detroit, like the blues club called Phelps Lounge…I got inside that one in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6KJsa6JoJe8n6w.htmlsi=6YK59XEr9egEOByr
rip grande ballroom
Interesting 8 pointed star symbol on the upper portion of the exterior. I'd like a better view and more info about the history of that.

@@PinetopJackson no sweat, TBH I was thinking out loud to no one in particular. I've become aware of symbols as a form of communication, and rarely if ever are they simply decoration. Like math symbols transcend written languages. Words and their meanings are continually evolving and changing. However the meaning and purpose of symbols are consistent. That is a very interesting symbol.
Too bad Henry Ford didn't buy it when it ' first ' shutdown for Greenfield Village !
The church that owns it needs to get with reality and let it be sold resonably to a person that will restore it! The church has big dreams that need to go elsewhere
Any idea what they are going to do with it?

Last I heard it was owned by a church and they have it listed for sale for an insane $5 Million! They will never get that. I'm sure they got a blight ticket and that's why they did the exterior clean up, removed the fire escape. It's really sad, but I think it will just sit there and continue to slowly crumble away...
so sad old detroit is all but gone
