Ling has so much wasted potential. It's a crime she was killed off so soon because she felt like she added something to the story, especially with Huang. It's baffling how they had her advertised so much in promotional art and introduced her in the game as someone who would be important only to waste her. It would have been so much better to keep her around as Huang's companion throughout the game.

Them killing off Ling Shan was just a complete fumble. She seemed like there was just so much more about her that we didn't know, I definitely thought that Huang's interest in her was going to be the thing that was a catalyst for escalation beyond just the triads. But no, instead she is quickly killed off and despite being carried off in very strange fashion, we never get to see her again confirming that she has died. I liked her back and forth with Huang, the healthiest relationship between a man and a woman that I'd ever seen Rockstar's series do, but of course they wasted it. If only her death had been faked and she was actually working for the police or something, we could have had a lot more complex story if that had been the case

  • @zakbax7259

I don't have an issue with it primarily since I think killing her off almost immediately was kinda the point for them, to undercut the love interest sort-of trope they had at that point. I think they took a lesson from GTA IV that it's better to have a great relationship that's severed too soon rather than a half-baked one that outstays its welcome.

Around 2006-2012 was such an iconic era in gaming that it was inevitable that some gems were gonna fall through the cracks. This is the only GTA game that I didn’t play and I always regretted it given how much love this game got from fans and critics. I was a junior in high school back in 2009 and I was mostly playing the abundance of classic Xbox 360/PS3 games at the time and I completely neglected my handheld consoles. I personally thought Chinatown Wars was even more fun than GTA4 and Episodes From Liberty City. It was like a redux of what made the entire GTA franchise so much fun - especially with that balance of realism and cartoonish zaniness that the classic GTA titles had. I did find it kind of strange that Chinatown Wars didn't have appearances by other characters from GTA4 though. It's almost as if that game exists in a different universe than GTA4. And I'm looking forward to your Saints Row 2 video. That game is the most fun I've had with anything available on the 360.

nah now you’re over exaggerating like bfr those two games can never be compared like one was developed on the ds and one was developed on the ps3 + ctw was after gta iv which was pretty underwhelming considering how good that game turned out to be and then we’d get a 2d game with no voice acting at least and easily forgettable characters, and in my opinion it should’ve been a dlc for iv since they’re both in lc and iv had lots of interactions with the chinese triads it could’ve been connected to the story like eflc

The fact that to get guns, you had to order them online and wait for the delivery truck, there was something oddly immersive about that, and you could try to game the system and steal from the truck instead. A bonus is the chase system, it's kinda fun.

I've only played this game's story once, and I really didn't remember much of it, so it was nice to get a refresh on it. The dealing minigame's gotta come back, that thing was so much fun and overall this game's has a nice story by itself. Anyways, hope to see you cover GTA Advance, it's a nice companion piece for GTA 3, and that'll complete your GTA retrospectives. Well, that and V, but that one's on the way soon-ish (tho I wonder if you'll get to the 2D universe someday). Well, looking forward to that Saint Row 2 video, been a while since I last played it so it'll be a fun watch :)

There is a gun range mini game in this ...which is very fun . Good luck finding it though haha... also the melee is very useful in combat...if you are close enough you could kick and knock every enemy to the ground even if you hold a gun

I strongly believe that not many gta game need remakes, but china town war is an exception for sure. I was always so salty when we could finally deal see the china town gangs story only to be done in a lesser version of all other gta games that came out during that time.

This game is awesome on the DS, you can use the touchscreen to aim throwable weapons and it feels so alright doing so and the minigames using the touchscreen are really good, thanks to that I ended up with a bunch of molotovs, and ofc the dealer minigame I spent like half of my runtime just dealing drugs there, but yeah I really loved this game R* Leeds really showed that they can take the most basic portable hardware and make the best of it, Max Payne on GBA, GTA on PSP and Chinatown Wars on the DS, imagine if they were not just part of the GTA Online mines and were tasked to make a new GTA for the Switch pushing the hardware to its limits giving us a new entry in the series, but it is what it is.

I remember sitting in my living room seeing GTA for the DS, I had to have it. Very very young at the time to own it but I bothered my mom so much she took me to K mart and bought it the same week it came out. funnily enough it was dropping around my birthday. Severely underrated GTA game, just recently played though it again. So much nostalgia

Police were same as the first game and london add ons The cops always did the same thing speed up along side you then ram a left or right straight into your car depending on which side they are on i think they were meant to get in front then turn to stop/block you but they just ended up rsmming the side of the car so predictable just wait till they gain speed then slam the brakes on right before they cut in.. 😂

this is one of my favorite games in the series 🙏 the ds version is so good, especially the wanted mechanic, easily the best wanted mechanic in any gta game. the story is decent, but there are a couple shitty missions in there but a lot of memorable ones. i love the car jacking/touch minigames in general i think they were done so well in chinatown wars. also the drug economy was genius, it was so in depth and a really unique way to get money for a gta game. san andreas is still my favorite in the series but this is easily top 4, not to mention the MF DOOM intro song

Great video! Man i love Chinatown Wars, it's in my top 3 gta games (With GTA V and San Andreas). I love it's police system that is the best in the series and i kinda like it's combat the most - especialy sword fighting. In most gta games combat is sub par, but here it's simple but fitting. Also while i love psp exclusive content, driving on ds seems more pleasnt. One last thing that i see you presented well is that this game proves how good people at rockstar are at writing. There is no voice acting yet it's so well done and characters are memorable. And i don't get why people don't like Huang, he is probably my second favourite protagonist after Michel DeSanta - he is a decent guy for the cirucmstances we find him in, and i love his constant sarcasm. Also i love it's soundtrack, it's nice mix of old school and modern just like the game itself.
