Grand Seiko SBGJ235 First Impressions | Why I Chose it Over Rolex and Omega

The Grand Seiko SBGJ235 is an incredible watch. It's so nice I chose it over heavy hitters from Rolex and Omega. Why would I do that? Watch the video to find out!

Pure class! That dial texture/pattern is absolutely ludicrous! My jaw dropped when you started showing the macro of it. Speaking of macro, the b-roll is "next level" stuff, my man! Absolutely stunning. I've also always loved the way they finish those dauphine hands. If Grand Seiko's are more impressive in person than everything I've seen online, then that's crazy to think about!

Enjoyed the video a lot. Just picked mine up yesterday at the GS Boutique after attending the first ever GS9 Club Watch event in NYC which was awesome. I wore my 60Th Anniversary SLGH003 which I call Jor-El Superman's father, as its above another watch released in 2020 named Superman. Anyway this GS Boutique Limited Edition is a killer with a high level 9S86A true GMT caliber dual time, jump hour and high beat 36000 movement. Many call it the "Peacock" I call it a super bad GS. Cheers bro.

Great review and thanks for inspiring me to put mine on today! I always say that if you like the GS case, be patient and they will come out with a dial for you! This color combination is amazing and I can stare at the dial all day and that Hi-Beat second hand. While the height of case and the polishing aren’t my favorite, the dial is what I see when it’s on my wrist and I don’t have a better dial in the collection. Your videos are quickly becoming my favorites!

Rolex, Omega, and Grand Seiko are all just above what I am willing to spend on a watch, but judging from what I have seen, the only one I think I would be willing to spend that kind of money on would be the Grand Seiko and maybe an Aqua Terra. Thanks Jorge! So from my understanding GS has limited edition and limited production. Limited edition pieces will have a set number of watches they’ll produce. Limited production watches will be produced for a certain amount of time without a set number. I heard limited production usually ends up being less watches than let’s say a limited edition watch of 1000 pieces. The SBGJ235 is a limited production as opposed to limited edition despite what the caseback says. I got this information from GS when I asked the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I hope I’m remembering it correctly though lol

Great video lovely watch; wear it in good health 🙏 Am I the only person that actually loves the fact that Seiko watches range from 5’s to Credor? I’m wearing a Seiko 5 this weekend but will be wearing my GS on Monday for work (loving the 72 hour reserve). I would, if I could have gotten it new, have bought the “Seiko” branded GS. I’m not a big fan of used watches tho, so my GSs aren’t Seiko branded, but I love the idea of providing something for every price range. I must be weird ...

I'm a sucker for that buttery smooooth second hand on a GS Spring Drive. But, you definitely made the right decision. That dial is stunning. I would probably spend an embarrassing amount of time listening to that high beat movement tick away.

Congrats on your new watch! My next watch will be the Tudor BB58 and for a long time I thought that it was the logical step to save up for my first Rolex after that. Considering that buying the Tudor will be my first purchase at my local Turor/Rolex AD, I have to face the fact that there will be long waiting lists for anything interesting from Rolex and I am considering a Grand Seiko instead too. I'm really looking forward to watching you review.

There were a few sold at 2.5k. Now, there's only one available, but, it doesn't have the original unique solid bracelet. I don't dislike Rolex. I still own 3, Hulk, Batman and Airking. I'm in a similar situation I'm stuck between buying a pre owned 34mm Rolex red grape Oyster Perpetual, Cartier Santos medium in steel, or a Tudor BB 36 SG with the champagne dial. I have a midsize Omega Seamaster 300M as my daily driver and have worn it for almost a year now and want something that's more casual but can be used in a dress environment. I'm still trying to figure it out but as soon as I lean one way I change my mind. Either way awesome video and sweet watch.

Thanks Watch Dave! I'm still loving the SBJG235. You can't get better watches at this price point and even a little higher IMO. Definitely check out the 235. I'd say cons are it's a little thick, but I like the case design. Also, it might be difficult to size since it lacks micro adjustments, but it comes with 3/4 ish links too so you should be able to get it right. Good luck!

@@BrandonMenancio I am totally in love. I still can't believe how stunning the watch is, especially for little more than the price of an entry level Rolex Oyster Perpetual! It takes seeing a GS in person, and then you really understand! The light play on the dial and hands and indices and case and...!! GS is in a league of its own. And nuts The Watchbox wants $7950 for a pre-owned model! I think we both are very fortunate!
