Grand Opening of Claire's Place Playroom at UMCSN Sponsored by Zappos for Good
Such a special day for us at Claire's Place Foundation. We are excited to share the excitement with all of you!
The awesome duo at Something New Films (www.somethingnewfilms.com/) created this magical video of the grand opening of Claire's Place, a playroom at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada designed by Claire Wineland and made possible by a collaboration with Zappos for Good. We love the way they captured her true spirit, thank you Sandi and Jimi :)
About the project:
This idea started almost 2 years ago when Zappos heard Claire speak at their All Hands Meeting. They were inspired to help her realize her dream of transforming hospitals spaces.
“Claire drew beautiful designs and worked hard on every detail. However, over the last year, Claire got so sick that she didn't have the energy to complete the project and as painful as it was for her, she had to put it on the back burner and focus full time on her health. Little did she know that we were all working behind the scenes to make her dream a reality. Designers Rozalynn Woods and Rebecca Brennan along with Zappos and UMC executives, worked tirelessly to make Claire’s vision come to life. Of course we wish she was here with us to see the playroom, but we are so thankful to everyone who made it possible and that it will serve those young patients who need it.”
Funded by Zappos for Good, a dedicated department focused on the online retailer’s community and charitable efforts, the newly developed playroom offers a number of unique features, including a 3-D mural of the solar system, a Lego wall and a series of frames designed to hold a rotating selection of art created by patients at UMC Children’s Hospital. Inspired by Wineland’s journey, Zappos teamed up with the young advocate and the UMC Foundation to build the new playroom.
“Claire’s humanity always shone through despite how sick she was and her message is one that continues to resonate with our employees. That’s why we joined her in this project and we are humbled by the way our partners, UMC and Claire’s Place Foundation, were able to help us make this dream a reality,” Steven Bautista, Head of Charity at Zappos.
Thank you Zappos for Good,, UMC, Something New Films, Rozalynn Woods, Rebecca Brennan and everyone else who worked so hard on this project.

@@alyssiarische5524 Hi Alyssia, I just want you to know, that soon after I saw your quote, it gave me the courage to do something that changed my life for the better, here I am a year later and not once have I regretted my decision. Thank you for helping me see that what I did was "really really brave." Claire would be proud of you.
Ohh man this got me 😭. Claire has been, and always will be an inspiration for me. She would be very happy about that playroom.
I was happy to be a part of this project. I am the artist that painted the planets. The video really helped me to see the scope of the project and the people that it touches. My phrase in life is, " Why be normal when you can be interesting and now " Live a Life you are Proud of"' will be added to it my guiding principles. Thank you

Why do people apologise for their english? Even if it were bad, you're not hurting anyone.

Interior decorating was definitely one of her talents, not just the interiors of buildings but of people as well.
I had no idea she had passed away until a few days ago. Broke my heart. Claire was one of my favourite youtubers, so full of life and such a beautiful personality, despite all the hardships she had to endure. Rest in peace, Claire. Thank you for making me smile on my darkest days. You’ll never be forgotten ❤️
She was and still is such an inspiration!
Claire was an inspiration to all who knew about her, and it's so heartwarming to see her impact continue after her passing 💙
such an amazing place for Claire's spirit to live on forever and for these children to have such a beautiful home in a place otherwise dreary is phenomenal! I used to do a holiday drive for the peds wing of my local hospital every year so that the kids would have tons of new toys, movies, and books... but also, each kid would get a blanket and a teddy bear. I loved going around to the rooms and giving them their gifts, not because it made me feel special, but because it made THEM feel special. My favorite memory during that time was of a 16 or 17 year old girl. The nursing staff told me she hadn't smiled once since she got there. I could relate, I hated it there too... but I was determined to change that. At first, she turned up her nose at the teddy bear, declaring she was too old... then I asked if the IV in her hand was bothering her. She looked at me kind of funny and asked how I knew. I told her I was a chronic patient and showed her how to position her hand on the nose of the teddy bear to relieve the discomfort of the IV... and what do you know, she breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. I walked out of the room and the nurse asked me what i did to make that smile happen... I told her it was one patient helping out another. It was something no staff member could have done. Claire and her amazing team provided this playroom for these kids. It's a patient helping patients. No matter how great a medical team is, sometimes we all need a little support from someone who's been there.

I know Claire is happy and still at work helping those in need. She was that kind of person.
😭😭😢I'm so proud of the impact she has had on this world. Thank you zappos for making her vision come to life.
Gosh... This hit me so bad... I'm literally just crying so much, because it makes me so sad to actually see her mother's pain. Both women are so incredibly strong, it's unbelievable
Claire, thank you for all you did while you were here with us. You are greatly missed.
Amazing, mental health is so important for physical health. She knew that no one else cared so she made people care And do something about it. Her soul is big and bright and unstoppable. Thank You Claire 🤍🤍🤍🤍.
What an amazing person. What a loss. No words are enough to describe her
How beautiful! I really hope this room will help a bunch of kids being as brave as Claire ❤️
I'm permanently in love with her.

We all are for sure ♥️
high fives and total respect and admiration to Claire's family and those others who helped with realising the completion of this process on claire''s behalf. For Melissa and Ellie to have found the emotional strength to be there opening up that special room and meeting the wonder and positivity of it head on whilst still in their raw process of grief says so much about what special and altruistic people they are. Claire was the heart and soul of kindness and consideration and clearly that's the family stock she came from. Such a special family passing on special values down the generations x
I'm not crying, there's just...someone's cutting onions, I swear!
oh Claire. I'll love and miss you forever. :')
This is beautiful. Claire still filling people’s lives with her energy and with her enthusiasm.
0:29- Claire says "so im gonna start with a story" n then it shows clips of her life in the hospital bed from the time she was born up untill her last video. All i can say is that the story she created during that time is the greatest thing I've come across in my life.It touches us at such a fundamental level that i can't express in words.Thank you Claire for sharing your greatness with us.I've personally learnt a great deal about life from your videos.Your legacy will remain forever in all of us.Much love and respect from India.
I’m watching this one the one year anniversary of her death. Beautiful soul, miss her videos.
Zero dislikes. My hope for humanity rises once more.

Die Welt nimmt, aber sie kann die Erinnerung an diese Person nicht aufnehmen (Liebe aus Deutschland)
Remember. Mad Omitted Trauma Idle Volume Anxiety Tired Irritated Offended Necrophobia Are just words to inspire.
If she was just another healthy average person nothing of this would have happened. Think about that.
