Horseshoe Bend is a meander of the Colorado River, it is located a few kilometers from Page (Arizona) about 8 km downstream of the Glen Canyon dam and Lake Powell. Horseshoe Bend is about 1,000 feet deep, U-shaped, and can be admired from atop the steep slopes after a short hike on a trail from the U.S. Bend. Route 89. Due to its peculiar shape, it takes its name from the horseshoe.
The Grand Canyon is an immense gorge (about 270 miles long, up to 6,000 feet deep, 1,650 feet to 18 miles wide) created by the Colorado River in northern Arizona, mostly included in Grand Canyon National Park , one of the first national parks in the United States of America: almost two billion years of the Earth's history have come to light thanks to the action of the river and its tributaries which over millions of years have eroded the rocks layer by layer, uniting to the uplift of the Colorado Plateau.
